Awesome service. They accepted our order despite closing 10 minutes later. Decent price(especially with a tastecard) and tasted nice.

I had a late lunch with friends this past Sunday at Rum & Sugar when there were very few options in the Canary Wharf area. Service was friendly and the interior was very nice. The food was a bit meh, a bit overpriced and not special at all. I had the fried pickles and the goat cheese salad. The fried pickles were ok, besides the fact that half of them were only batter and had no pickle inside. the salad was also decent but was quite a small portion for an entrée, and a bit overpriced. My friends both had the burgers which neither raved about. Rum & Sugar does have nice décor and a nice patio so I can imagine it would be a nice place for post-work drinks, however I wouldn’t come back here for food.

Oh Rum & Sugar, we had such high hopes. A group of us were coming here for a movie and decided to get food beforehand. And we knew there was Rum & Sugar for drinks and nibbles on the other side, so off we went. We should have known we were in trouble when we sat and no one came to see us, despite the fact that there were only like 10 people in the entire giant space. We sat outside on their comfortable patio and waited, and waited, and finally went inside to grab someone. They have a few menus at Rum & Sugar(which isn’t confusing at all) — a bar snacks menu, a full menu, a cocktail menu and a drinks menu. We were handed all of them and then had to play pass the menu to figure out what we wanted. Turns out it didn’t matter, none of it was good. We tried the sharing platter(with staples like fried chicken, onion rings, fish cakes, etc), where everything was over fried, soggy or just gross. The mushroom chips were tasty at first but became bland and, again, soggy, by the end sitting in the cheese. The Jenga-esq tower of polenta had not flavour. All of it, just yikes. The drinks weren’t much better. My piña colada was incredibly watery. My friend ordered an old fashioned and we’re still not sure what came out, but it wasn’t an old fashioned. Oh man. And then to leave, we asked for the bill, they brought it and then forgot about us again. I had to go back in to ask them to come out so we could pay it because we were trying to make the previously mentioned movie. Just awful. There were a few nice things. They do have a TON of different forms of rum, so if you are coming to drinks straight rum, you’ll be very happy. Sitting outside, they did turn on the heater for us when we got cold. And it’s a giant space with lots of room, so I don’t think you’ll ever be looking for a seat, even if you’re a big group. However, maybe there’s a reason for that…

Had lunch with friends here last Friday, had a great time! There’s a £10 lunch and drink deal which was a bargain, steak and chips and a glass of red, bargain! We had 4 babies between us and they were very accommodating, kitted us out with highchairs and nothing was too much trouble. The staff were really nice. The food was delicious and didn’t take too long. There was scrummy complimentary bread and dips too which always is a nice surprise. The ambience of the place is old warehouse, stylish and remarkably quiet given it’s Canary Wharf location. We will definitely be coming here again soon. Can’t recommend it enough!

I took my family here for a Sunday lunch and found it disappointing in every respect apart from the décor. The food took an age to arrive and was really mediocre. Even the kids meals were so bland that they were barely touched. The waiting staff were friendly enough and very apologetic about the speed. This place, ideally located next to the museum of London Docklands, really needs a new menu and good chef.

On Thursday 19th September, after a free guided tour of ‘Sailor Town’ at the Museum of London(Docklands) I fancied a cuppa, so went to the Amper&and café(run by rumandsugar also on site). It’s situated in the large enrance hall/foyer and offers a variety of tables and seating, from sofas to wing backs to proper sit up and keep your elbows off. It was great to have a pot for £2 served in bone china; although no extra water and only English Breakfast or Earl Grey.(Sundry alternatives including Rooibush and Mint were also available). The listed chocolate cake had been finished ‘yesterday’ and of the two others only the Victoria sponge was baked that day. It was a large slice but hideously over sweet with a jam and butter cream filling. The sponge itself was Ok but tasted cheap(as if it had been made with marg’). I left the filling after one taste… which is not like me at all and felt quite swizzed at £3.85.

Their lunch specials are thebomb[dot]com. I got an enormous(posh) tuna niçoise sandwich, a(posh) side salad and some(posh) chips for just £6.50. My companions got the Friday Billingsgate fish & chips(and mushy peas) with a beer for a tenner. The atmosphere in the evening? Eeeehhhh, not so much, although you could do a lot worse in Canary Wharf — I’ll be honest.

Absolutely adorable. A lovely little nod to West India Quays’ past, and the perfect ending to a walk around the charming Dockland’s museum. The platters to share are some of the best I’ve had in London. The Cocktails aren’t bad either. Service was sometimes a little ropey if you were outsidehope this does well, it’s a great alternative to the other chain bars and restaurants on the quay
