Ordered from this place online. Money taken from my card. Got a call about 30mins later saying they do not deliver to my postcode.(they do 1.8 and my postcode is within the normal 3miles) Get off the online order website then! Why advertise your business on there? I just wanted a secure way to pay by card. I have to wait 2 – 5 days for the refund! I was thinking of going to the restaurant if the food was good but there is no way i will ever go there now.

The owners of Sagano are brave people opening a relatively expensive Japanese restaurant where a Chinese takeaway had previously failed but, being a huge fan of Japanese food, I was keen to support that ambition and went as soon as I possibly could. They appear to only be open in the evenings and have a maximum of 18 covers plus a delivery service. As we entered on a Sunday evening there was only one other couple eating and we were instantly greeted and seated by an extremely polite waitress. So keen were they to serve us that they attempted to take a drinks order from us before we had been given the menu! The interior is stylish in dark wood but due to being in such an small space it was a shame there was no background music as we could not help hearing everything the other couple were saying and it made the waitresses whisper to each other! Not yet awarded their on license we opted for soft drinks– but could have brought our own bottle– and then perused the menu which had an enormous selction for such a small local place. I usually get a «bento» with sushi or sashimi at the central London Japanese places as these usually provide a complete meal with variety. However, at Sagano all the different sushi and sashimi is individually priced and there were no «cheap» options along bento lines. We therefore ordered the Flower Chirashi Don which was an abundant selection of sashimi– tuna, salmon, scallops(delicious), crab stick and salmon roe served on a bed of sushi rice(£9.50), assorted Tempura which was beautifully battered but a little steep at £8.50 for 2 king prawn, 3 vegetable and 1 «whitefish» tempura, and the seared tuna«Tataki» which tasted great and was beautifully presented but also a bit expensive at £10.50 as it would not have satisfied as a main course on its own. The quality of presentation and flavours was all there and the service was friendly and almost embarrassingly polite. I need to go back and sample other dishes on the menu as there is an enormous range for such a small restaurant and this review can offer nothing more than first impressions. It may be that Sagano is aimed slightly too high for its location but it compares very favourably with Feng Sushi in Notting Hill and I wish this new restaurant opening in such difficult economic conditions the best of luck. A touch of class on the Askew Road.
