Not very nice, and horrifically expensive.- designed primarily to appeal to a younger punter, not unnaturally given the Nappy Valley location. The fact you can add your choice of breakfast cereal or sweets to the froyo is merely window dressing, as at £5 or so a tub your main contribution is undoubtedly to the rent on such an expensive location. Haunted by pre-teens and odd emo types. Recommend only to people you don’t like, so they don’t join the queue for Oddono’s down the street, which also has a few healthier options.

Given the huge line today at the gelato place on the corner, we decided to try out Samba Swirl for the first time. Compared to other places this place charges by weight and it ended up costing us £5.70 for a relatively small pot. The natural flavour was also very sweet and did not taste natural at all. This will be our first and last visit. I’ll stick to snog.

Had a very nice time at Samba Swirl today. They have different flavours on different days, but today I tried cheesecake(like very sweet vanilla), lychee(very lychee flavoured!) and the plain yoghurt flavour, which I settled on. It’s plain but it certainly isn’t just plain yoghurt — it was very sweet. They have a nice(large) range of toppings: lots of fruits, sprinkles, choc bars, even granola. The guy working there said ‘great option for breakfast — get the plain yoghurt and granola — pretty healthy’ yeah right!!! They have interesting juice bubble candies that are apparently made by them. Look like tapioca but are definitely not tapioca. The issue is the price — one cupful is £5++. Easy to spend at least that much per person. But it was delicious.

I knew that Samba Swirl was going to be a new and interesting froyo experience before I had even crossed the threshold. It’s vibrant mix of colours suggests a more playful approach to froyo than the cool, sleek interiors of other establishments. I was not wrong. The interior of the new Islington Green parlour is largely devoted to the self service machines and trays of toppings. This is clearly a parlour focused on the enjoyment of making your own froyo creation and thus lacks ample seating, however, with Islington Green just across the road this isn’t a problem on a warm day. I had never done self serve before so was little wary, however, the assistant was very helpful and even let us sample a few flavours before we got to work. Swirling froyo was harder than I thought and as a result ended up with little swirl to my froyo, but this was made up for by the childlike excitement experienced when adding toppings! Samba Swirl’s daily changing flavours always makes for a new experience and the self service meant that I was able to create my own perfect ratio of froyo to toppings. Non of this enjoyment was dulled by the dreaded moment in any self service situation the weighing and the paying. It was reasonably priced, despite the mountain of toppings which I had liberally applied!

I love how you can mix and match your toppings as well as the yogurt flavours. I’d suggest letting the fro-yo run a little bit because some of the machines plop out some liquidity goop that might ruin your already nicely filled cup. Just watch out on loading up because it can end up over 5 pounds!

This idea is GENIUS. Never before have I seen so many yoghurt flavours, so many toppings and such an ingenious way to buy them. This shop is self-serve — as much yoghurt as you want, as much of as many toppings as you want, pay by weight. £1.90/100g. It works out tastier, cheaper and more customised than any other way of buying frozen yoghurt. I am so impressed. Delighted to have just started work nearby! I’ll be returning regularly…
