As other reviews mentioned, it is minimally staffed, but the rooms are nice and clean. There was a desk attendant almost every time I passed the front desk, and they tried to be helpful(when we checked in, the kid insisted on helping carry our bags to the top floor. super nice fella). sadly, I will never stay here again and had to refrain from losing my temper at 530 am on my check out day. Our first room(top floor) had a broken AC unit. They did move us to another room the next morning, but that night’s sleep was done in stifling heat. Miserable. Made for a really crappy day of vacation on no sleep. The new room seemed perfect(AC was in full effect) but then at 5am as I was soaping up in the shower preparing for 16 hours of airports and flights, the shower stopped. Just stopped. No more water. I rinsed the shampoo out of my hair in the sink and hopefully the walls were thick enough that my swearing didn’t wake additional rooms. That was the only time I didn’t see a person at the front desk, and they’re very lucky for that. Never again.

Rating des Ortes: 4 Astoria, NY
I was really teetering on 3 or 4 stars, but I decided that the quality of the room for the price I got it at rounded it up. The good: Everything in the rooms are new and clean. Private bathrooms(a shocking amount of hotels in my price range had shared bathrooms on each floor, like a dorm). I stayed on weekdays only, booked last minute, and was able to get my room for $ 118/night. The room had 2 twin beds, which was more than enough room for me alone, though I think if I had a travel companion it would have been cramped. The area felt very safe for walking around late at night. Very residential, but not too far out of the touristy areas via the Tube. Free wifi(though it broke down for a day and a half). The stuff I wished I had known before booking: There is no elevator and basically no staff. They have a receptionist to answer the phone and check you in, but that’s it. They will watch you struggle to lug your suitcase up 4 flights, unapologetically. I thought I would be able to glean information about the area from the receptionists, but they were not very helpful. For example, I asked for a recommendation of somewhere I could get breakfast in the area, and they told me «Starbucks.» –_– Also, the closest Tube station(Kensington Olympia) is not a «real» Tube station, so you have to use West Kensington or Baron’s Court, which are a bit further. All in all, I would stay here again if I were to return to London.
