Two reviews at an average of four stars is better than one, right? Is two of the same review with four stars just as good? Er… So the experience I had was similar to that of Molly K, only I could see the street and she could see the rest of the restaurant. Being honest, until I read her review, I’d forgotten the number of times we asked for water and the bill. The thing that stuck out for me was the great food and the satisfied full feeling as I walked out, by which time I was already planning the next visit. The food was all great. The rice, naan, prawn madras and sag paneer, let alone the great array of chutneys which accompanied them. Far from being just another curry house, you are made to feel like your presence is welcome as opposed to being just another customer. There is the usual choice of veggies, prawns, chicken or lamb with the different sauces; korma, jalfrezi, madras and vindaloo, to name a few. There’s a nice selection of side dishes and breads as well and usual choice of beverages. What marks it out, though, is the feeling that you couldn’t do better by cooking yourself, which I get from some curry places.

You know when you’re in the mood for some good Indian food but don’t want to bother with Brick Lane? The fella and I decided to try Spice of Night since we liked the idea of walking to dinner and wanted to find a new place in our ‘hood. Right off the bat, the service leaves A LOT to be desired. Okay, they were busy(Saturday night and all), but with five waitstaff in a small room, that shouldn’t be an excuse. We asked for water three times before we received any, and at the end of the meal, asked for the bill four times. The food took absolutely ages. Okay, now that’s out of the way, the redemption. Our meals were delicious. Slow service aside, they’ve got magicians in their kitchen and I don’t even want to know the secret. I’m a chicken tandoori kind of girl myself, and it was awesome, served on a sizzling hot plate. The five-bowl tray of chutneys and spices stayed on the table and were used throughout our meal(not just for our quickly gobbled poppadoms early on). House white was decent as well. If the gentlemen working at Spice of Night weren’t so friendly, there would be at least one star deducted from this review. Their food certainly brings up their reputation for me.
