My partner and I absolutely love this Indian restaurant. We are always greeted by very friendly staff. The food is served quickly, but they also give you room and time to sit and chat and enjoy the experience. The food is very tasty with good-sized portions and the meals are very good value.

Catagorizing these restaurants is always so hard as the food in most tandoori restaurants tend to follow a standardised script. This place fits the cliched, run of the mill, average tandoori restaurant where most things on the menu taste the same and the only variance can be registered on the scoville scale! It has all your bog standard masala’s, vindaloos and kormas which, after an evening of merry drinking, may hit the spot. For me, the food itself, is nothing really special. A lof of the karahi dishes are created from the same base paste, often with the onions and other vegetables undercooked. There is nothing exciting about the masala’s except for the over indulgeance in food colouring! I have been here a few times as it is local to me and each time I come away feeling bloated and a bit unsure of nature of the food I have eaten. The service is ‘nice’, if a little forced. Perfect for that post pup grub meal, however, if you are passionate about sub continental cuisine — it really fails to deliver anything of significance.

The Spice of Raj is a charming Indian restaurant not even one minute from Collier’s Wood station. There’s also a really cool pub nearby called the Collier’s Wood Tup, also just one minute away. So you put two and two together, and you have a great dinner at Spice of Raj garnered off with a bit of elbow bumping at the Collier’s Wood Tup. Even if Indian food is just what you’re after and not the pub then it’s worthwhile to pay the Spice of Raj a visit: the surrounding areas are fairly quiet during the evenings and there is a fair amount of other nightlife options nearby. The menu at Spice of Raj contains the stock standard everything you’d expect at any Indian restaurant, but it’s warm interior might just grab you.
