When most people think of Starbucks, they think of Frappuccinos and standard coffee. But this newly opened branch does things a lot differently: For starters the design of the store is more elegant and old fashioned. Also you have a greeted by one of the baristas who will take you to where you wish to seat. They allow you to have the coffee in several formats from Clover, Pour Over, Chemex and Syphon. Each of these methods of brewing give it a different taste and smell so it is worth trying all the blends which themselves are only available in 5 stores in London and are in limited supply, so best try them while you can. They also have an evening menu which you can even add with a glass of wine or a bottle of craft beer or even another cup of coffee to some food which gives the store that restaurant feel. Definitely will be coming more often.

So, this place calls itself Starbucks Reserve. It’s really odd, it’s a Starbucks with table service. As soon as you step through the door they ask you whether you are going to dine-in or take-out, they then either seat you or take your order directly without you having to go up to the counter. It’s a weird feeling, receiving table service at a Starbucks. It just doesn’t feel right… it’s like they’re trying to make a regular product into something posh. I don’t know, it just felt really odd. They do however have wireless charging, which is brilliant! At the large bar table in the back, there are these little charger plugs that allow wireless charging of your device. Great service for people on the go! I guess having a posh-ish version of Starbucks is a neat idea, if a little uncomfortable when you just want to pop in for a take-away coffee.

I believe the name of this place is actually Starbucks Reserve, where you can sit down and enjoy table service, and after 4pm complement your coffee with a choice of craft beer or wine and an extended hot food menu. Available alongside the standard coffees available at all Starbucks are the specialities, these range from special blends of beans to different preparations, Chemex, Pourovers etc. These are done at the bar with an explanation of the process, so it’s quite an interactive experience. Alas, we were running a little short on time so opted for a sandwich and a couple of standard coffees. These were brought quickly to the table with payment made tableside. Quite enjoyable and it’s quite a relaxing environment. The only thing I would say is possibly a little annoying is how the tables are fixed and how close they are together. The tables are actually fixed to the couch by way of a bar that comes out from the couch, turns a 90 degree angle and then joins to the table. This stops one person from sitting directly in front of it(the bar would need to go between the legs and the proximity of the tables to one another means that if two people are on the couch, then you’re now invading the neighbours’ space… Just a slight design flaw IMO. The rest of the area is nice, glass and brass all over and special store specific merchandise for all you collectors out there!

Good Starbucks! 7:00 on a week day in soho but still places to sit. Excellent staff with delicious new winter menu! I had the mulled apple juice-tasty! And the apricot jam cookie– DELICIOUS. Moist and crumbly but still held together enough to get to my mouth. A perfect spot to write. The staff were generous with offering samples and everyone of my group had our name spelt correctly! There was no queue ao drinks were finished very quickly and the building is pretty with high ceilings. The comfy couch in the back is incredibly squishy and will sink delightfully down and not want to leave… mmm well played Starbucks. Well played.

This is a Starbucks different then any other, they pretend to give you not only a good(bit snobish) coffee but a whole experience, like in a theatre, I love it! It is a Reserve bar, which means they serve coffee from small batches. It is also a new concept with a bit more tech(guys with ipads show you your table), modern look & feel, table seating and all sorts of different coffee brewing methods like siphon and chemex, besides their clover machines and they even have a different espresso machine than all other Starbucks stores(which all have La Marzocco’s) so that they can adjust settings more individually. There is wine and(craft) beer in the evenings available but have not tried that out yet. (Make sure to walk to the Upper St Martin’s Lane because there is also a Starbucks Reserve at St Martin’s Lane)
