Great range of sweets and service with a smile! If you want to know anything about what is going on in Forest Hill then Sugar Mountain is the place to get the low down, and an ice cream. If you have kids, they’ll love it.

The Mrs and I are looking for a place to live and she has decided on Forest Hill because of this shop. Now I tried to explain that, having a sweet shop close by is not a valid enough reason to move into an area, but try saying that to someone with a nostalgic sweet tooth. This is a beautiful little shop. Everything is beautifully displayed. It’s got a perfect mix of behind the counter and packet sweets with a colorful retro feel. They stock vanilla cokes and flying discs and all the best of the retro sweet world. Rather than be bombarded with the novelty like you would in some of the more well stocked shops in central London, you will actually come out buying things on every visit here. A wonderful land of brightly colored sweet treats and a must in the area.

This shop is adorable. It is just as you hope it to be … rows and rows of candy jars, filled with sweet stuff in all shapes and colours and flavours. It’s a traditional sweet shop selling all the old favorites, plus some new and American sweets. It opened in April this year and it seems like it already has a steady followership. When I was in there I could observe a steady flow of … yes … children, but also adults. The shop owner was chatting away and I had the impression that she knew or recognised nearly everyone. She was asking one little person if she needs to share her sweets with her brother. «Yes.» Came the timid answer. «I give you one extra then, so you have three each.» said the owner. It was so cute. Next to sweets they also offer fresh local breads on Saturday and Sundays and homemade chutneys, flavoured oils and vinegars. This was perfect for me as I was looking for something to surpise a friend and make her already amazing cheese and wine evenings into something extraordinaire. Who can resist locally produced chutney? They also have a stand at the Forest Hill Food Market, which happens once a month.
