Went around 2.30pm for lunch we were the only ones in the restaurant… Went with a friend who choose the stake. When it came out the waitress stated«here is your beef rib stake» my friend hates rib and was not happy that it did not state it was rib on the menu however, she spoke to the waitress and she was more that happy for my friend to order something else which she did. My friend and I both ordered the burger which came with wedged fries. The fries where very good however the burger was okay nothing special did not blow me away if anything it was a bit dry. I also ordered the side salad which was very bitter. I order a mocktail which was very good elderflower and something else… Overall the service was very good, very nice setting and they where accommodating I would go back just to try something different…

Now this was a very pleasant and unexpected surprise. We walked into this place purely by chance and I could not be more pleased by what we found. The décor is warm and cosy, especially if you get one of the many booths. The menu is short and very well thought out, always highlighting seasonal ingredients and the extensive wine list always has the perfect accompaniment. Once the food arrives, it’s mouthwatering presentation combines with perfect flavour to make this one of the nicest dining experience I’ve had in a while. Definitely highly recommended.

I think this restaurant is quite new, we went because we read a review by Jay Raynor. So glad we went, the food is fabulous. I have a sage and olive oil martini — sounds grim but was deliciously savoury a great start to a meal. The food is season, well executed and skilfully prepared. My highlight was venison with Spatzel and mushrooms and my boyfriend’s was a delicious bitter leaf salad with pork — bitter leaves proving a wonderful foil for soft, slow cooked pork belly. I skipped pudding but had a dessert cocktail instead — a lemon meringue pie cocktail. The service was a bit erratic, i think they are still finding their way. I was a bit annoyed about the upselling on sides, we were told that the potato sides were tiny and wed need one each. They were huge, more than enough for two. I hate wasting food and this irritated me. Overall a positive experience, we will be back!

Pretty delicious Italian food. The portions don’t look that big but are actually perfect sizes for you to feel satisfied but not too full for pudding. The gnocchi and risotto were really top quality with what felt like high end ingredients. The staff were also friendly and very attentive.

So we were looking for a place to have dinner earlier in the week. I thought The Bayou Camden, but the lady suggested this place instead. Having looked at the menu(sample only) online, I quickly agreed. It’s on the Caledonian Road, not too far from King’s Cross and not where I would have traditionally expected a good restaurant, but it’s on the edge of the regeneration wave. Opposite is a slightly shady looking hostel, but there is a clear difference between one side of the street an the other! How times change… First off, I need to start with a con. The entrance is not clearly signed. At least, you know where it is, there’s a big sign above the restaurant, but the confusion comes over what door to enter. I would assume that they’d either signpost it or maybe put some glass in it, but instead there are two dark grey doors to choose from, one in the middle and one on the right hand side. The one in the middle is the one to use although you’d be hard pressed to figure it out. Thing is, both open and you can come in but I’ll get to why this was a problem later. Inside, it’s a really good looking space, small booths as well as tables. I was seated quickly and got to look at the menu. They pride themselves on sustainability and have a rotating menu depending on availability. The menu looked good, the starters looking very appetizing. After a while my gf arrived and we chose wine(I had accidentally ordered a bottle of still, but profits go towards more sustainable water supplies, so actually not unhappy about it), going for a relatively reasonably priced bottle of wine, they start at about £20. Cocktails we’ll try for another day. We settled on Rare Rump Cap for me and Steak Tartare for her, followed by English lamb and a pea and girolle risotto with a side of Swiss Chard gratin. Rare Rump Cap was essentially thinly sliced beef steak, with olive oil, delicious! The steak tartare was a big portion, also fantastic, everything tasted so fresh! Less of a puck of beef though, it was quite wet when it arrived, even before the egg yolk was mixed in. The mains were similarly excellent, the lamb cooked just right and sliced into almost identically thick slices. The risotto was the star though, who would have thought that rice, peas and girolles could be so flavourful. Honestly, the food and the staff are great, even the look of the restaurant but that door thing I came up earlier with? It didn’t seem like such a bad thing right? WRONG. Our table was next to that door, and there isn’t a large gap to get through there, essentially every time someone came through, they wouldn’t go out and go through the main door, they’d squeeze past us, brushing past both of us. It was wet yesterday, the number of times I was in contact with a wet umbrella was not fun. And what’s with people? Say ‘sorry’ or ‘excuse me’, even the lady who whacked me on the back of the head with her shoulder bag, just looked at me. The staff also go that way to head downstairs, never found out what was down there, but again, the table we were at was not a good one. We’ll be back but not sitting at that table. Can’t ding the restaurant for the actions of the clientele, but dinged them for bad signposting!
