Just saw ‘Kanjoos’ at the Tara last week and enjoyed it immensely! Snappy dialogue, witty zingers, a lively and talented cast well directed and performing a marvelous adaptation of Moliere’s classic — and timely! — take down of a miser. The spare set and casual but very effective costume changes work admirably. I spent the entire evening grinning, interrupting myself only with the occasional guffaw. The accompanying music was a real surprise in the best way: what a voice! The theater itself requires a smidgen of indulgence from its audience in terms of physical comfort, but this very minor sacrifice is immediately repaid by a bounty of dramatic fun.

Tara is a lovely little independent arts group, which encourages diversity and independence within its’ actors and productions. I’ve seen a few shows here, the place is really tiny and intimate, in fact, it doesn’t even look like an arts group /theatre from the outside at all. However, despite it’s size, good things come in small packages, and Tara put on a range of productions to suit all. I’ve enjoyed the few times I’ve been here. Productions vary so be sure to catch their upcoming events on the website. This isn’t the best place to see a bit of theatre, it can be a little too small and I enjoy the grandeur of going to see a proper production in a bit theatre but that’s beside the point if you want to support something a little different and independent.
