This seems like a nice place and we were in kind of a rush, so I’ll give them the benefit of the doubt, but Teapod owners, if you are reading this, please help our your newbie staff. We were doing a murder mystery treasure hunt(yes, I know what I said) and wanted some coffee before starting. We ran down the street and found Teapod, attached to the Fashion & Textile Museum and came in. It is a lovely spot with lots of seating, nice light and a nice array of food and drinks. There was one girl behind the counter and she looked a little startled to see anyone. Our order then went like this: «Hi, I’ll have an iced coffee.» «Ok, and iced coffee.» «Also, what’s your most popular tea.» «Um…» She pauses for a long time. «I don’t know. This is actually my first week.» «Ha! Ok, so then the frozen hibiscus tea.» «Ok, anything else?» «Yeah, this sparkling water.» «So, just the sparking water and the tea?» «And the iced coffee.» «The what?» «Ugh…» She was sweet but clearly new and there really needed to be someone there with her. She made all our drinks and it was fine. The coffee was a little weak and needed sugar, which there was on the table, but overall, fine. The reviews say the food is good so perhaps I’ll be back to give it a shot.

Teapod is a cute little café located on the fashionable and busy Bermondsey Street. I aimed for Teapod with the thought of having a good cup of tea(or two) and working there for a few hours. As a freelancer I usually get to work where I want and the café looked to welcome the loitering type(no evil eye when I opened up my laptop and made myself comfortable). To my disappointment the internet was not working and it seemed like it had not been working for a while. So I would not recommend it if you are in search of a place with Wi-fi. The tea selection was wide and the hot drink served from a cute little teapod(as the name of the café suggests). I also eyed the good selection of healthy foods, like fishcakes, salads and soups that one could also buy home as take away. This time I did not try any, but on the basis of the delicious looking plates on the tables next to mine, I would definitely recommend trying it out. Service was perhaps not the friendliest possible, but what can I say, I have had worse.

The teapod is a really nice little café in the textile museum. As the name suggests they do of course do good teas but I have been equally impressed by the nice lunches and also the cold drinks. It may perhaps not be the place to go for coffee but they do also serve that I would however every day of the week go for the tea instead.

What a cosy tea place! It’s warm, smells of delicious teas, and has a 70% cacao chocolate brownie that is pure decadence. How do you find this wonderful place you ask? Seriously? Look for the incredibly bright building on Bermondsey street. I guarantee you that no matter where on the street you are, you will not miss this place. Granted the building is primarily the home of the Fashion and Textile Museum but is also houses this bit of tea-lover paradise on the ground floor. It’s about a 5 minute walk from London Bridge station and there are bike racks scatted around the street(and lots of handy railings) if like me you prefer braving the cold weather on a bike as opposed to tunnelling underground. As you would expect, this place serves lots of tea but also has an adequate selection of coffee(I believe its Union coffee but don’t hold me to that) drinks if you so prefer. I was a bit miffed when I asked for a suggestion that had a high caffeine content that she only thought of coffee. Surely there is a tea that will keep me awake?! I’d love to tell you my favourite, but I have a hard enough time pronouncing it let alone remembering the spelling. The chai tea was perfectly fine with light spicy notes but lacking anything in body. Perhaps this would be better to remain a latte. The(I really want to say Malaysian) tea that I tried afterwards was fantastic with a sweet taste and rich floral notes before ending on a bit of a honeyed aftertaste that lingered for a while and in general made the day brighter. And as mentioned before, the brownie was spectacular although I recommend earlier in the day than later as they tend to dry out a bit. The other great part is that you can spend all day there on a couple of cups of tea and a wee snack and take up a big table with your study materials and they still smile and provide excellent service no matter how busy it gets. It is lovely having table service at a tea shop so you don’t worry that someone might nick your iPad when you get up to refresh yourself. The free wi-fi is ultra fast and for once does everything you ask. I’ve streamed movies on my iPad from lovefilm without having to wait even a second for it to buffer. That’s the good stuff! Oh and before I forget, they serve the tea with a card that provides suggestions on how long to let it brew for maximum taste. Not ideal if you are impatient like me but it’s a learning experience. The tea is served in a teapot which holds 2 – 3 cups and with a tiny carafe of warmed milk. Also, its a tad expensive(£2−3 for teas and £3 for the brownie) but not overwhelmingly so. Give it a try, especially in these dreary months, and the bright building alone will make you smile even before the tea work its magic!

Great selection of teas(served in lovely little pots), cold drinks and healthy lunch and snack foods. Nice low-key ambience in the café makes for a great place to have a catch-up coffee or do some work. Lovely staff.
