Board games, quiz night, easy location, what’s not to like? It’s not got much by way of charm. at least not the kind of obvious charm sam smiths or other victorian-y posh pubs have, but it’s a very real feeling place full that’s got an interesting ambiance. give it a go.

The Baring is a thinking man’s pub. They have board games, lots of sport, a great selection of real ales and they run a wicked-good Thursday night pub quiz. I’m not surprised to see that CAMRA are fans. It’s certainly not a pub that’s going to threaten the nearby Hoxton bars for the weekend high-heels crew. Our trio of men brains managed a third place in the Baring’s pub quiz last time we had a crack. We were undone by difficult rounds on orchestra instruments and UK tax spending. We killed it on the picture round though! It was a great fun and varied quiz, so hats off to the quiz master. There’s a few nice pubs in De Beauvoir Town, but make sure you seek out The Baring on its corner near the canal. It’s a great place to while away an evening.

Discovered this pub whilst looking for somewhere to watch an Arsenal match and was really pleasantly surprised. Really nice interior, comfy, with pool table, darts & table tennis upstairs. It has a couple of TVs downstairs to watch football, and a big screen upstairs, but it’s definitely not a ‘sports pub’. Had one of their burgers for dinner which was v tasty. It’s not a groundbreaking selection of beers on offer but plenty to keep everyone happy. I’ll definitely be going back again!

I’m fond of this pub — just off the main road which runs alongside the canal, it’s a quirky little place. It serves a range of usual lagers/ciders/decent wine list. But it does a very small but effective range of real ales — for which it won the CAMRA North London pub of the year(i think) last year.(there is a certificate from CAMRA behind the bar) If you are a fan of Black Sheep, Spitfire, Timothy Taylor, Ruddles County etc then you could do worse. The landlord also promotes a different malt whiskey each month. The menu is large enough, quality is reasonable. Most dishes are under a tenner. The Sunday roasts are vast! For fun there’s a quiz night every Thursday night — quite popular, and you can win some serious money if there is a roll over, it’s not that serious, plus a pool table, and table football table upstairs, and a large screen for sporting events. The pub shows most football games, plus cricket, rugby and, occassionally, WSB and MotoGP. There are live music events — the Blues Bandits being a regular The pub also has supports a football and cricket team. It’s a short walk from the Wenlock Arms(a Unilocal fav). The 2 respective cricket teams have an annual match — the mini ashes.

A nice local pub. Has a big screen for the football and a standard selection of drinks. Foodwise I can recommend their extra hot home made chilli. I believe there is an upstairs room and a garden here too but I’ve only been here for football so far so can’t comment on them.
