Decent cake, average service, poor value for money
I ordered a large photo cake twice for my young friend’s birthdays. The presentation was ok, the cake itself was nothing special, regular sponge cake with jam and cream, which, on one of the occasions seemed a little not fresh. At GBP 72 (in 2013) for a 12 inch square cake, I find this poor value for money, and quite honestly, something of an emotional extortion of parents and relatives, who will, obviously, pay just about anything to get their loved one that dream cake.
Btw, on the last note, it’s not just the Cake Store, it seems to be the case with most cake shops in London, it appears to be something of a cartel, because a 12 inch cake with no bells or whistles does not cost GBP 72 to make, and nowhere near this amount.
Also, in 2012 the same cake cost me GBP 65, so it’s 10.8% year-​on-​year price inflation seems a little steep when UK inflation over the period was under 3%.

Ordered a 50^th birthday cake online and picked it up on the date i requested. The cake was beautifully decorated and was put in a suitable box, easy for me to carry the box home without the cake getting damaged. The cake was delicious and was well worth the money I paid for it. It tasted really fresh. The only fault was the lack of communication, there was no indiciation of what time I should have picked up the cake, apparently all cakes are to be picked up before 4pm on the day you request. Apart from that the service was excellent and I will be making sure I order a cake from here again!

The cake they delivered was tasty and on time. However, their customer service is terrible, and left me feeling rather upset. Basically, I bought the cake as a gift for my niece. I put a separate invoice address and delivery address as the option on their website, however they sent the invoice to the delivery address (with the cake). They ruined the surprise and left the recipients guilty of how much money I spent on the cake. I rang the store to find out what happened and was spoken too in a thoroughly condescending manner. I was told for the last four years I’ve been working here, I have sent it this way with a rather smug overtone. Utterly rude and dismissive of my complaint. I WOULD NOT RECOMMEND this store on the principle that if they value your custom, they would have the decency to discuss concerns in a civilized matter. To be be honest, my motivation was to help the store realize their error to avoid doing the same thing to other customers, but now I feel they do not value or deserve my custom.

We bought our daughters birthday cake from here, although the decorating was nice the sponge was dry and wasn’t nice at all. Not worth the money spent and will not go there again.
No stars deserved

This cake shop does not deserve any stars. You expect that after choosing a cake, discussing what you want with the staff, having it confirmed in writing and paying for it in advance, agree a collection date. That it would be a done deal. IT WASNT. On collection there was no cake, they tried to fob us off with a plane, cake, nothing like the order, and even after complaining to the manager who could only say ‘but i wasnt there’. he agreed to sort it out and provide the cake that was ordered and deliver it.
What arrived was unacceptable, we had to put our own decoration on it to jazz it up. My advise is save your time and money. You cant risk bad service on a special day. Go somewhere else.

A wonderful shop — not only can you get everyday bakery items which are just delicious, you can also order many different kinds of cakes, from birthday to christening and weddings. I ordered a special retirement cake from here and it more than exceeded expectations. Not only was the design wonderful, but the taste was also extremely good — excellent quality and definitely recommended!

The cake store is the best cake shop in london winning many awards and running for over 70 years you will get the best cake you’ll ever have. They specialise in making cakes for occasions, inside the shop is a bakery section and displays of exclusive cakes. From fruit cake, chocolate cake, rich cakes, kids and wedding cakes, birthdays cakes… you can order online or visit the store, and the cake is made to your specification, furthermore the price… marvellous!!! I ordered my cake from the cake store it was made on time and they delivered it, what more can you ask for:)
