Hip yet old fashioned and very British, The Centre Page is laying on the atmosphere thick, almost making up for the average food. I had to order Fish & Chips… right? I’m in London — I don’t think they would let me leave the country without ordering the signature dish(I look forward to your angry yet still polite emails Londoners for my broad generalizations). After getting caught in the rain outside St. Paul’s Cathedral, my girlfriend stopped by for lunch. The interior is designed to give you the old British pub feel, with lots of hardwood and a little dark with a long inviting bar in the corner. You’ll definitely feel like you’re in England, just in case there was any doubt. My girlfriend and I order the Famous Fish & Chips(£10.25) and the Salmon & Dill Fishcakes(£9.95). You should know going in you get a lot of bang for your buck — our entrees were massive and a good value for the price(when we were there it was $ 0.60 to £1). The Fish & Chips weren’t bad — the fish was lightly breaded and friend, easy to cut apart and cooked very well. It may be because it’s a somewhat simple dish, but I wasn’t too impressed. The fries were also unremarkable, just your standard french fry. The mushy peas were a pleasant surprise and arguable the best part of the dish. The Salmon cakes were far better than the Fish & Chips, and I loved the egg on top and the fresh salad on the side. Overall, if you want standard British food at a surprisingly reasonable price in a really cool looking restaurant, you won’t be disappointed with the Centre Page.

Seems to be a theme here, lots of good reviews for fish and chips. Well, adding mine. Great little pub, friendly service, and excellent fish and chips with smashed peas. We don’t like to spoil our appetites for dinner, and one was plenty to share for two. Great beer too. Would return without hesitation. Dogfish IPA is a bonus.

I very nearly loved this place, they lost one star due to their 50p charge for non-contactless card payments under £10(contactless is free). Which I think is a little bit ridiculous. It’s a very«cute» pub, small, cosy, really nice place. There’s a quirky spiral staircase taking you to a downstairs area which is basic but nice. I’m a fan. The beer selection isn’t anything to write home about. I would come here because I like being here rather than for beer. No idea about the food(or even if they do it). I kinda feel like if they put a wider variety of beers out and stopped the crazy charge for not being contactless this would be a mind blowing pub. As it is it’s fine.

After visiting Shakespeare’s Globe across the Thames River, I was rushing to the airport and spotted this place near St. Paul’s church after crossing Millennium Bridge. Given the location, I knew it was probably a tourist trap and I wish to avoid those usually but had no time so stopped in on a Monday afternoon for lunch. I’m so glad I did! I was in London only briefly and had yet to try proper fish and chips and I was definitely WOW’d. I’ve only had this in America, and this was definitely better than anything I’ve ever had. When it arrived on my table, I could feel the heat from the plate — that’s how scalding hot and fresh it was, and I loved that! The cod was absolutely massive, a thick portion of fish deep fried with the skin on within an incredibly crunchy beer batter. There were pieces of bone in it, but no bother, this only made it seem more fresh. The chips(thick cut fries) were perfectly crispy and both the fish and chips were insanely delicious with a bit of salt and malt vinegar(which I had to request by walking up to the bar). The dish came with a tartar sauce and ketchup, but tasted way better with the salt and vin. I absolutely love that the fish and chips also came with mushy peas, whereas most pubs only give you fish and chips alone. The dish was also very well priced at 9.95GBP, and I was able to use my credit card, rounded up to 10GBP because they have a 10GBP minimum for using cards. I appreciate that this restaurant had free wi-fi, which I found out by asking my waiter, who quickly provided the secret code for me to use. In America you would never ask your server for this but I noticed that nearly every hotel and restaurant I visited during my 11-day tour of Europe offered wi-fi. Good on them, because how else would I check in to a restaurant on Unilocal and shower them with praise and circulate promotional foodie photos on Instagram? During a weekday, many workers nearby flood this place to grab a pint during lunch… now, why don’t I work in London? I would give this place five stars based on the food alone, but I am giving it four because I wished the service had been more attentive, as I had to go up to the bar to get malt vinegar and also to ask to pay my bill. I understand service in Europe is more laissez-faire than in America, but since this is a tourist spot I would have liked to be checked on by the staff at least once during my meal, and certainly to be presented with the bill. Note: They also serve Sunday roast dinner for 9.95GBP on Sundays

We found this place on the way to St Paul’s Cathedral’s church. Highly recommend Lamb & Mint meat pie, Bangers n’ Mash, and Fish and Chips. Burger is huge and highly recommend as well. You will find lots of local business men in suits before noon and suddenly tourists like us start to take over. If you are in the area definitely check this spot out.

Bön accueil. Le pub en lui meme est discret et banal. Decoration quelconque mais l’ambiance est relativement chaleureuse.

Just over Millenium Bridge on the northern side of the river makes it a tourist trap. However, my experience with the Centre Page was actually not half bad. Like 99% of people I walked in because it was there and got food and a pint. Things may have changed but I remember the pie I had being fanTASTIC. Nothing else really to set it apart from any other pub. I would not stop here for just a pint, but I would stop by for a bite to eat and an ale.

I think this has been the least expensive meal I have had in London so far, and it wasn’t bad either! The girls and I decided it was time to try a traditional English breakfast. Per our classmate’s suggestion, we tried Center Stage, tucked into the plaza right between Saint Paul’s and Millennium Bridge. We were all starving so we were excited when our huge plates of food came out. The plate was full to the brim with chips, sausage, ham, bacon, eggs, beans, fried tomatoes, mushrooms, and toast. Oh, and we got tea to start with. Needless to say, we were absolutely stuffed afterwards. I would highly recommend this little hole in the wall for a filling breakfast/brunch/lunch in a comfortable atmosphere with friendly service… for only 4 quid!

Coming over the Milennium one afternoon, we saw the Centre Page and marked it as a possible starting point for the next day’s explorations since their sign mentioned a full English breakfast special. We did return to indulge the next day, and the experience, though not bad, was a little strange. When we arrived the place was empty aside from a table full of construction workers elbow deep in their meals. We picked a table, perused the menu and I went to the bar to order. The woman at the bar seemed a little annoyed, but she took the order and walked away kind of abruptly. After a slight mix up with our beverages, our food came out and was ok. I was actually a little disappointed in the chips, as they were the first and only skinny potato fries we had seen on our trip. They weren’t bad, but seemed a little out of place. Did I mention that the entire time we were there the jukebox was cranked with recent dance/pop songs? Well, it was. For an old, traditional pub, the music really cut right through the atmosphere. It made for a strange juxtaposition between old and new. Not awful, just weird. This wasn’t a bad meal. The location was convenient. I wouldn;t make it a destination, but you could certainly do worse.

We were also another dumb tourists fell for the«famous fish and chips» sign. I ended up ordering egg, ham and chips, which I was told traditional english meal. It wasn’t bad, I actually enjoyed it(bit pricey!) Location was nice, near the St P, very touristy and also easy access to bus or tube. I’d say this place was nothing special, but if you are hungry and need some ale, check it out.

I have been going to this pub for the last 8 years. It is right in the middle of the City opposite St. Paul’s. It has a very friendly atmosphere, the staff are excellent and it does awesome food. I would definitely recommend this place.

Us stupid tourists were attracted by the big sandwich board sign on the pathway from St. Paul’s to the Thames that read«FAMOUSFISHANDCHIPS!» Don’t get me wrong, the fried cod was a huge honkin’ piece but it wasn’t THAT great. The chips(also know as steak cut french fries) were good but not mouthwatering orgasmically good. I felt ripped off here but I guess it was my experience of having fish ‘n chips in London.

Despite the address, it has nothing to do with the 1980s TV series. We are, after all, in the City of London and there are no talking cars and no bubble-permed American actors who used to have a music career in Germany. What this pub does have is lots of middle-aged businessmen having their lunch and the odd tourist who presumably got lost between St Pauls Cathedral and the Millennium(wobbly) Bridge. This bizarre mix of clientele does nothing for the atmosphere which is at best subdued. Up until a few years ago this pub was known as The Horn, however following a rather brutal refurbishment it assumed its current name. To compensate for the loss of the original character they have tried to contrive an entirely new one which is less than satisfying. On the plus side the beer is OK(Bombadier, Pride); the service friendly and they have Sky.

The Centre Page is fairly unusual for the area as it is rarely so busy that it feels uncomfortable — probably because of its slightly unusual location between St Pauls and the Millennium Bridge. It’s a friendly place with cheery bar staff and a fair range of decent pub grub. In terms of décor — its very much your traditional English pub — no bad thing. It lacks a little in personality because most of its locals are pretty transitory and even on a Friday night its usually quiet by about 9.30÷10. Has a good range of beer though and a load of booths for gossiping in. Worth a visit if you’re in the area and a lot better than numerous other pubs in the vicinity.
