Happened to stumble across this place while their weekly pub quiz was on. Didn’t participate as we were just too late but it could actually be a place where you may be able to win, which is quite refreshing. They have a good selection of beer/ales and offer a beer of the week which is at a reduced price. We ended up getting burgers and a side of Mac & Cheese. My beef burger was ok, nothing special but still ok. Burger bun was toasted just to the point it was starting to char and the actual burger was over done. You also get chips served in a mug but unfortunately it’s just a small handful and the mug is only half full. Also the Mac & Cheese had way too much pepper in it. My partner went for the green lentil burger with sweet potato fries. I tried a bit and it was insanely good. Wish I had ordered that. Not sure the pricing for the burgers are justified. Paying £10 for a plain burger and then up to £2 for each individual topping, it could get pretty expensive. Overall nice big pub, good beers, friendly staff and good food dependant on what you pick.(Visit — 09/06/2015 Dinner)

A family friendly pub, although there seemed to be a time after which children were no longer welcome. That actually seems a pretty good compromise to me. The pub is very modern. I would recommend the window seats if you can get them. We managed to and it was a nice place to relax(particularly once the nearby kids had gone!) They serve real ale but the selection was pretty boring so keg is the way to go with a difficult choice between Beavertown Neck Oil and Lagunitas IPA. Best to make the decision based on how strong they are! Autocorrect wants to call this pub Cuckoo Egg which is a pretty cool name. What is a Cuckfield anyway?

Really surprised this place has 4 star reviews. Maybe we just got unlucky. The whole place feels a bit run down, the seats we were sitting on we’re stained and the lock on the door in the bathroom was broken. I ordered a flat white(on the menu), but was told they couldn’t do that today(?) I had a cappuccino instead which came half full and appallingly presented. Then I ordered the smoked chicken and avocado salad which came without any avocado and no explanation after a longer wait than you’d expect in a pub. All in all, pretty disappointing!

This place has awesome food; is a lovely inside with. Nice conservatory area — veggie options can be a bit rubbish. Be aware on a Saturday night can be a bit scary as turns into a bit of a youngsters cattle market

Nice local to meet friends or family in. Very homely and cosy. Large garden area at the back with heaters. Go off peak when it is less busy. You might be lucky enough to see the cat sleeping on a chair near you. Great menu too !

Having frequented this pub for many years, i can safely say the atmosphere is normally good and the food is of a very good standard for pub food. On my most recent journey i decided on the beef burger and chips with the addition of ‘bacon jam’. In the words of George Takei, Oh My! It was delicious and everything i hoped it would be, salty, sweet and umami and generally a totally unexpected addition to the menu. The burger and fries were also good and a merry evening was passed in good company and cold drinks. In my opinion, The Cuckfield is always a reliable choice of venue.

Better food than the Weatherspoons down the road but you defiantly pay for it. Nice friendly atmosphere though and good bottle beer. The roasts and specials are excellent.

Even with the number of seats this place has, it is always packed in the weekend. The roast is well worth the visit(if they haven’t run out). They have a back garden where they normally do BBQ in warmer weather but also very busy.

A solid middle-class gastro pub, this is. From the respectable range of ales(including some guests) to more than quaffable wines, you’re sure to find something you enjoy drinking. Sierra Nevada is a mainstay. The food menu is long and varied, and the fare I’ve tried was respectable, albeit a bit spendy given this is zone 4. On the subject of cost, I should say I would have liked to see the prices about a pound or two cheaper for many main courses. And the 10-pound round for two pints of ale did give me a bit of sticker shock given this pub’s almost-Essex location. I guess it IS located in yummy mummy Wanstead valley, though. All in all, the pub has good food, good booze and plenty of inviting seating areas and a vast beer garden. On my two weekend visits, it’s always been buzzing. If you’re in your 30s and living in Wanstead, it’s where you’re going to end up eating and drinking at the weekend. If you’re visiting friends who are the aforementioned, you’ll be happy here too.

Nice food, good atmosphere, great location. Service was good, probably because it wasn’t that busy. Would go again.

I absolutley LOVE this place! I reguarly eat and drink in The Cuckfield as it is perfect for all occassions; be it a drink with friends, a gastro meal with the other half or even a big family get-together! The food is always tasty the menu changes daily and the portions are always ample. The décor is stylish a real mix of old and new which I think makes for people of all ages to feel comfortable in these surroundings. The interiors are a combination of chandeliers and industrial steel with a real unique vibe. The beer garden is spacious yet not the most beautiful aspect of the venue(the garden is rather concrete) although there is plenty of shelter(useful come rain or shine!) as well as outdoor heaters. During the summer months regular barbeques are held which I can highly recommend! The atmosphere is usually pretty buzzy especially Friday-Sunday and The Cuckfield seems to get everything right! Except for one thing: the bar often appears to be under-staffed since there is a quite a wait during ‘peak’ periods. Although staff are rushed off their feet they are always efficient and courteous so that kind of makes up for any waiting! I would certainly recommend this place! It can’t fail to impress! It is THE place to go in Wanstead!

Great atmosphere. Fabulous beer garden. Excellent range of ciders and ales. Only rubbish service especially at weekend lets it down.

Fantastic gastro pub food is of excellent quality and not at all badly priced. I can highly recommend the fish and chips, lamb shank shepherds pie and burger! The Cuckfield also has a really nice big beer garden which gets lots of sun. Staff very friendly and helpful. The place is decorated really nicely and you get a very nice mixed age group crowd in there.

Excellent selection of beer and a very nice refurbishment a while back have made this a decent pub to go to. It is a little expensive, so if you’re short of cash head to The George. Major annoyance is the constant lack of bar staff. The few that are there are exceptionally busy so expect a reasonable wait at the bar. On Saturdays I usually get two beers in at a time.

Always considered this place ‘my local’ even though had to walk past two other pubs to get to it. Its very spacious with a god mix of comfy sofas, lounge chairs and more formal setaing(for eating). It has a large beer garden outside and they do BBQ’s in the summer out there. Food is above average and not too pricey. Very friendly atmosphere. Always fel at home and relaxed here, ovely place would highly recommend if you are in the area and need a drink!

Our local pub for a number of months and will definitely return. Great outside areas, huge choice of beers on tap if that’s your thing, a decent Sunday lunch & a very popular quiz on Tuesday nights. Friendly but overstretched bar staff who always seem to be getting a telling off from the manager(?)

Yeah, this place hits the spot. I’m impressed to find somewhere in Wanstead that does a roast dinner under a tenner. And you know what? It was pretty damn good too. Lamb roast came with a Yorkshire pudding which was very tasty indeed. It was all nice. Although they could have given me a few more roast potatoes(and they could have been slightly ‘roastier’), but there was mash as well. Not too shabby. I don’t like cabbage all that much though and there was a lot of savoy. But still very yummy and a huge portion for £8.90. Not that that stopped us polishing off our plates, we were ravenous. They dealt very well with a full table, there was about 11 of us I think and we ate mostly at the same time. The only reason for four stars is my poor friend Eddie who had to deal with his measly meal. He ordered it from the specials menu. I think he was hoping for a posh version of sausage and chips, he got a tiny plate and only two sausages. I think ‘kids’ menu would be a better description. If you’re out in the area and don’t fancy one of the many many delis around, this place is great. Just avoid the special.
