Tucked away little Gem, they have a good selection of beers and ales, they do good food but they best thing is they have board games you can play at your tables.
It is usually fairly quiet as most people in the area haven’t found it, if you are wanting a quiet drink then you should probably try finding this place for at least one.

If you’re able to find The Duke and you’re a fan of art-​deco, you’re in for a treat. There’s real ale on tap, at least three different ones that rotate, and a cider. The food is superb, hearty gastro-​pub fare, reasonably priced and is transported from the kitchen to the dining area via a dumb-​waiter, which is something I haven’t experienced very often. The dining area comprises tables and booths. The booths are an art deco delight in themselves; if you’re too big to fit in one of the booths, or you find the wooden seats in them too hard, it’s your loss. Some of the customers are nicely quirky, and genuinely interesting to chat with, as are the staff. The best way to get here is to aim for the Charles Dickens Museum on Doughty Street, as Roger Street runs off Doughty Street. There’s also a mews running off Guilford Street (opposite Goodenough College) which leads straight to it. The Duke really should be visited.

This must have been our fourth stop on the crawl, or the fifth… anyhow, it didn’t really get a fair chance.
It was almost empty indoors and very dark. We were here around 10 pm. I guess I need to go back, even if I wasn’t really pleased with the selection of draughts (no IPA and I guess only one pale ale).
I liked the interior though, it is not your regular pub but still cool.
It is located off every street imaginable so people doesn’t just stumble upon it, you need to know your way, and even then you will get hesitant if you are really on the right track!

I love the look and feel to this pub. It really is a charming quirky place. Shame that the St Austell Tribute was not quite up to its usual standards. It just wasn’t as floral in flavour as it generally is. Red piano!

Food was decent-​ish but it was very cheap, £20 for the set 3 course Christmas menu.
The place was absolutely deserted on a Saturday night. I get the feeling this place is busier during the week and not the weekend but I could be wrong.
The booths at the back (where they tend to have the ‘restaurant area) was not suitable for anyone but short people. If you are of a taller persuasion ask them to avoid seating you in a booth and opt for a table.
The staff were nice and the toilets sell some kinda viagra alternative instead of the usual condom machine — however, not to worry, you get a free condom with the pills! WOW now if that’s not worth taking the detour to get here what is?

Very nice little pub. We were on our way to the Charles Dickens Museum nearby and needed to sit down and have something hot. The place is quiet and dark and very cozy, and the food was excellent. We had shepherd’s pie and venison sausage with mash followed by an apple crumble, and it was just what we needed. Good service, a good little wine list, and of course the usual many beers and ales. Highly. Recommended,

I quite like this pub. It’s off the beaten path so it tends to not be that crowded. The interior is dark. There’s quite a bit of dark oaks but with jazz playing in the background it adds to the atmosphere.
The prices are quite average and the staff are quite nice. I’d highly recommend it if anyone is looking for a nice but quite pub to have a drink.

we went here for a Sunday roast, followed by a few pints. IT’s a little pub, as previous reviewers have said decorated with the original art deco furnishings all through: it reminded me of my primary school.
The food is good, although my roast beef was slightly overcooked and a bit tough as a result, the trimmings and gravy were delish and plentiful: no problems with value for money.
One of the most attractive things about this pub, hidden as it is down a back alley, is the clientele, which tends to be local and not the mainsteam.
I’ll definitely be going back at some point. 4 stars.

What was once known as the Duke Of York, this place is can be quite hard to find, and is relatively off the beaten track, but it is worth a visit, because it has a great feel to it.
The Duke has an art deco outside, and while the actual pub itself is quite small, it is cosy, and has plenty of tables for groups of people to sit around. I came here for a friends birthday, and really enjoyed myself. The crowd is a mix of locals, and people who have stumbled upon it by chance and decided to stay for a quick pint.
There is an ajoining room, packed with dark cosy leather booths. This is where you can get something to eat. The menu is deliciously old fashioned. Lots of pies and warm hearty meals. Definitely worth a visit.

This is a lovely art-​deco pub and restaurant on a quiet backstreet off Gray’s Inn Rd — and even better the food and beer are as good as the décor. The original fittings have been preserved throughout, with some stalls as well as tables.
The food isn’t cheap but there are good snacks available from the bar, with generous portions and great chips. Usually the place itself is very quiet in the evenings at least, perfect for getting away from the hubbub of nearby bars.
