We were recommended this restaurant and were very interested to have Fish and Chips which we had not had in years. We ordered F&C made of Haddock and mushy peas as a side order. It was a great meal and the batter was thin and crispy and the chips or FF were deep fright in fresh not old oil. To this we had a glass of Merlo and a London Lager. Great to say the least. Go there try F&C or other fresh sea food. If we have a chance we will be back

The best fish & chips in the city! We never visit London without eating here at least once.

I liked the food here. I’m not big on fried fish, but what kind of trip to London would it be if I didn’t at least try Fish and Chips? I was staying in Clapham, so I decided to try this place out. It’s a small, cute little place, but I did feel weird walking in. There was no one seated in the dining room and it seems that most people order their food here to-go(or take-away as they call it). I really didn’t feel like bringing food back to the apartment I was staying in, so I dined in. The servers/staff were very nice and helpful. I ordered the classic halibut fish and chips. The halibut was lightly fried which I really appreciated. Again, fried food kind of hurts my tummy, so anything heavily battered and fried is not my friend. This, however, was perfect. I’m not sure if it not being heavily battered is a good thing or a bad thing when it comes to fish and chips, but I loved that it was more fish than batter. And the fish was delicious. And piping hot. The steam did not seem to stop. The chips were okay. I wasn’t crazy about them. The serving was decent. I wasn’t able to finish neither the fish or the chips. The fact that they charge a pound for sauce is kind of ridiculous to me. There should be at least one sauce standard and maybe an additional charge for extra, but to charge me a pound for just one small cup of tartar sauce is absurd. The prices here a little pricy in comparison to what you can find elsewhere, but you are getting high quality fish. I would return if I’m ever back in London. The fish was really good and, again, I loved how they fry it… but I could see how locals may not be rushing to go back here. especially with these prices.

This was one of the major highlights of our trip to London. We felt like we had stumbled into a young Gordon Ramsey or Anthony Bourdain after we had eaten here. I was lucky enough to have a view of the kitchen and watch the chef direct his staff and perform his art. As I sat there I realized not only was all the kitchen and cooking in sight, but so were all the fresh ingredients in a iced cooler. I would love to go back here again, but as this was a once in a life time trip, I will just have to be content with I ate his food when… If you hurry maybe you can as well.

I love fish so this place is perfect for me. They have a lovely lemon sole on the bone and if you’re looking for a healthy carb free meal this place is spot on. They also do the abttered variety of fish which I’ve not had but it looks great. It’s rare to find a really good, modestly priced fish restaurant in London. Highly recommend.

Upmarket fish and chips? Local brews and a wine list? Delicious starters and dipping sauces? Laidback lounge music and chic, comfy booths in a fast-food setting?(or takeaway) It feels as though a line’s being walked here. And I like it.

This place specialises in Fish n Chips, but like many of the restaurants on Clapham High Street, is way overpriced. While the battered fish was well cooked with a light batter, it was slightly swimming in oil when it was served. The chips, which are a crucial component of any fish n chips, were mediocre. Hmm, maybe it’s the type of fish that I ordered(the wannabe cod) but I didn’t think it was that great. Felt that my office canteen did better fish and chips but willing to give it another go with the haddock. I have to admit the sweet potato fries were amazing.

Wow, wow, wow! We have just found our new favourite fish and chip restaurant in London! And since we have to come to Clapham every Monday, I’m guessing it will now be fish and chip Monday! Hurrah! I’ve just been here the once, and I’m completely sold. We had battered haddock and chips, and tartare sauce. At £10.95, it’s not the cheapest fish and chips I’ve ever had, but up there in my top 10 ever. The batter has the slightest hint of beer, but is really crispy and not at all greasy. The fish is really fresh, flakes nicely and is juicy. And as an added bonus, the chips are hand cut(i.e. irregularly shaped!) and are cooked to a lovely crisp. Even the tartare sauce seemed to be home made. A must try! I’ll be back next week!!!

I normally live in Texas, but when my friend and I went to visit London last week we knew we had to try the fish and chips. I looked up online for a place with good reviews and stumbled across The Fish Club. We were not disappointed. The fish was completely fresh and perfectly battered. The batter feels like it melts in your mouth. The fish was soft. It was just perfection. The chips weren’t too bad either. Plus the tomato shaped ketchup bottles were adorable! Right now as I sit hungry typing this, I wish I was in London again eating fish and chips… I can only sigh. I miss London.

Pricey and the quality varies. I’ve been twice in 2 weeks and had 2 different experiences: one brilliant, one just meh. The sweet potato chips are wonderful though.

Check this place out if you want an order of fish and chips that is fresh, not super greasy, and all served by great staff. The staff was extremely helpful and knowledgable. We arrived just past the ending time for the lunch special, but the server gave us the deal anyways. The fish was a single filet, with a perfect breading that was not too oily.

I’ve only eaten fish ‘n’ chips about a dozen times in my life, and now nearly half of those times have been at Fish Club. I love that there is a grilled option, and I’m pretty much addicted to root vegetables, so their sweet potato fries make this mouth happy. To me, fish ‘n’ chips is a guilty pleasure, and this place helps me take some of the guilt out of it. Also seems to more popular for take-out than dine-in. In and out in about 8 minutes. Still super comfortable for eating in though I’m not a fan of the top level. Was a little fishy up there. Service is a little spotty, but it seems like they just might be be short-staffed and have new people.

This review may have to be taken with a grain of(sea) salt, since we have just started exploring london and just touched the tip of the iceberg as it comes to fish and chips(where every restaurant sems to tout having London’s best). But the fish and chips here are quite simply, awesome. Whether you take your fillet battered or grilled(the latter we at first assumed would be less tasty and satisfying — totally not), you can’t go wrong. Their chips are thick and potato-ey but light and crisp, but our favorite are their thick-cut sweet potato fries that are delicious and just seem to match the delicate yet nutritious vibe going on with your fish. Their aoli and tartar sauces prove to be excellent accompaniments, The locale and décor are somewhat simple, and not as homey and warm as a pub, but are fine for a quick meal. There is an additional upstairs area we thought was a little warm and somewhat pungent, probably due to being located over the kitchen. That said, there were plenty of patrons dining in or taking away to suggest we’re not off the mark on this one, Fish Club rules.

All I can say is yuuuuuuuuuuuuum! It’s very classed-up fish n chips so if you want something in a newspaper then don’t come here, but it you want amazing taste with just the right amount of grease, this is your spot! If you’re looking for just fish ‘n chips, definitely just order the kids portion. It’s the perfect amount and much much cheaper than ordering one of the larger fish plus a side of chips. The crawfish cocktail is super-yummy with some nice spoky paprika sprinkled on top, and the sweet chips are pretty incredible.

If there is a river called Mediocrity in England, surely The Fish Club is where they bring the fish they catch there to. With Fish & Chips, in my opinion it is 90% at least entirely about the fish(the freshness, the moistness once cracked from it’s batter shell). The Fish Club, and for all I expected it to be with being called, the FISH club, fish was boring, not moist and the batter was a cross between beer batter(yum yum) and your good olé’ Mom and Pop’s deep fry batter(also a yum) which unfortunately, leaves it to be neither. Once upon a time you come across a fish&chips place that has both phenomenal fish and chips(see The East Hill) but the Fish Club’s fish was blah and so were their chips. And for a surprise un-bonus, they mix malt vinegar into their ketchup(or at least the time I went they did)! Since you have both malt vinegar and ketchup on your table, can’t you let the customer choose? yuck. I was hoping this place would have been good since it’s so close to my home, and it is alright if you’re in a hurry… but seriously, if you’re in England you want GOOD F&C not alright F&C and is worth taking a tube/bus/train ride to find a better standard somewhere else!

If there was a documentary about Fish and Chips in England, I would definitely hope they go to this restaurant and spend some time there to show that it is possible to find good and clean Fish and Chips restaurants. The food is fresh, the staff is responsive and there is a nice atmosphere in the restaurant. A compulsory stop for all my friends visiting me!

Went for posh fish and chips at the Fish Club and it was pretty impressive. The calamari was exceptionally well-cooked, although a little on the saucy side. The good ol’ deep-fried hake was perfectly done with a brilliant batter. They get their fish in fresh everyday and adjust the menu accordingly — so its always fresh and original. Sides are ordered seperately, so it does tend to add up, but you can have anything from chips to salad to couscous and the choice makes it worthwhile! The staff are friendly and laid back and not afraid to point you in the right direction — and helps make the atmosphere chilled.

In a nutshell, superb near perfect fish and chips. It’s hard to eat fish and chips anywhere after you’ve had them here! The food does edge towards the posh side of something that’s really supposed to be a bit greasy and unhealthy(we all love a bit of grease from time to time don’t we) but nevertheless is right on the money. The fish is wonderfully fresh — they get a fish delivery twice a day from a man with a van — and you can tell, it’s melt in the mouth quality. Loads of choice on the fish front too. And ladies and gentleman, there’s no cod here any more — so they are looking after our planet too — you can opt for battered coley or haddock which are both delicious. If you’re someone who likes to eat healthily this is also a great place because you can have the fish grilled, rather than battered. Athough the batter is so light and yummy it’s kinda worth going for the batter! Lots of healthy side options like mixed roasted veg, steamed brocolli and salads. The sweet potato chips are also worth trying and a great alternative to regular chips and healthier too, lower GI index if you like your chips and into that kind of thing! A really great place to go if you’re really hungry, love good hearty food, and want something quick. The service, especially take away is very quick. The takeaway portions come in little cardboard boxes and always piping hot when you get them home. Unfortunately this is another place I’ve discovered on the way home from the gym, damn!
