The Fold London is a high-end British fashion label which was created to address the needs of modern women needing a high-powered wardrobe to match their high-powered jobs, or, more simply put, an outfit which can take out from boardroom to bar. Polly, one of the co-founders, created this label after working in the City and realised that there was a niche in the market for women’s workwear. The rest, as they say, is history. And, boy, am I glad that they did. At this point in time, I’ll admit to owning several pieces from The Fold, mainly from their great Le Marais Capsule Collection, a collection which consists of highly versatile separates and which have the added bonus of travelling well so that you don’t have to worry(too much) about wrinkles and creases after they’ve been in your luggage for a few hours. Not a week goes by without me wearing at least one item from The Fold to work. All of the clothes are designed in London and made in Europe. The quality is of the highest standard. I just love how heavy the material of the jackets and trousers are. The Fold sells online and also has a showroom in Clerkenwell. I’d highly recommend visiting the showroom at least once so that you can to see the full range of clothing they offer. Their service is also very personal and friendly, without the high-pressure sales tactics you might find at other shops. They also offer free alteration services done in-house — another reason to visit the showroom — and free delivery(at least in London). Their service has even extended as far as offering to deliver the pieces I wanted to try to my place so that I could give them a go, without any obligation to buy them. That may be because I am a regular customer, but, still, it’s a nice offering. For work clothes, I’d rate The Fold’s prices as being moderate. They’re not cheap, with prices usually selling for over £100, but, honestly, if you want good quality clothes, I’d say the value proposition here is not bad at all, especially when the quality’s comparable with clothes from a high-end boutique.
