The Good Egg at the Hangover Club is my new favorite spot for a lazy Saturday brunch. It is not super easy to find(despite the sign on the sidewalk) but it is on the top floor of the Magdalen House on Tooley Street at the Skyroom. It is half outdoors(there is a roof and walls over most of it so not really outdoors but still nicer if warm) so it is a bit weather dependent. The space is very nice and there are some where one can seat and gaze out over Tower Bridge. As the name indicates eggs are a main ingredient in most of the dishes and also in many of the drinks. The kitchen is small so there may be a wait for the food but it is well worth it. I had the Shakshuka which is poached eggs, mixed with a spicy tomato and pepper sauce served with sourdough bread and merquez sausages and a yogurt sauce. The perfect start to a late Saturday. The Steak and Eggs also rocked and for those wanting something more healthy — not sure why you would want that but apparently some people do :-) the egg white omelet with spinach and salmon was apparently also good. Looking around at the other tables the breakfast burrito also looked great. Would say that for those who do not like eggs this may not be the place to go but there was one dish on the menu without eggs and that was a yogurt with granola. The beverages on offer are a mix of healthy made to order fruit juices and nice herbal teas(both the ginger and the mint teas were great) but there are also a bunch of nice hangover cures such as a selection of 6 different Bloody Mary’s and the awesome sounding Bacon n Eggs which is made from bacon fat washed bourbon, sugar, lemon, sherry, whipped egg white with a few crispy bacon rashers in. Be aware that it is only open Saturday’s from 11 to 3 but from 5 the Gin Shed takes over and Friday evenings Cock n’ Doodle takes over the place and Wednesday’s it is a Grape Night’s wine Wednesday so there is often something cool going on at the Skyroom.
