The Larrik Inn is right by work and has undergone something of a transformation from rowdy Australian-themed sports bar to slightly upmarket pub — unless it’s game day at Fulham, in which case prepare to be stopped at the door by burly bouncers asking which team you support. The small beer garden is a great place to spend a Friday afternoon, although it’s also the smoking area so maybe not so good for anti-smokers. Food is cheap, especially at lunch, but you definitely get what you pay for. They have live music and couches to fulfil the ‘we’re a little bit nicer now’ idea that they are going for with their gradual revamp. EDIT: Ooof, The Larrik Inn is no more! Transformation complete, it’s now called The Kings Arms.

Biggish pub, popular with youngish locals. Meh. Unaware of how to make a proper G&T(I might have bought the tonic, but I might also not want the whole bottle in my drink).

SPORTSPUBKLAXON Immediately followed by; AUSTRALIANPUBKLAXON. If both those things are ok by you, or what you’re after, then you’ll like it here. The food is well priced and not bad at all. They’ll show practically any sport you can dream of, especially the Aussie ones. Things get a little loose in here if the mood is right.

If you have Skysports, they will come. That’s the way it works for this sort of pub, it’s a real football watching place. Not that the view of the electric box is amazing from every seat but the atmosphere is good and the food is nice too. There isn’t a huge selection of mains, it’s simple food, chicken and leek pie, macaroni and cheese, burgers and sausage and mash. I had the burger for about £8 and it was nice, proper meaty and with a side of chips and aioli it’s a good choice. There is a nice little alcove at one side too which although on quite a big junction at the end of Putney Bridge actually feels set back enough from the road not too be really, really annoying.

My friends and I spent New Year’s Eve at The Larrik, as a part of TNT Magazine’s NYE masquerade party. TNT hold heaps of events here, including their annual Halloween party. We had a good time there, they played some drinking games and the music was good too. The lines for the bar were ridiculous, and there wasn’t much of a countdown — they just had the TVs on showing the Big Ben countdown. You have to get in early when they have free drink promos, and there’s no cloak room. It was so hot but you couldn’t go out into their nice seating area out front unless you wanted to die from smoke inhalation. Hopefully I was just a bit disappointed in terms of the NYE event, but it seems like it would be a nice place otherwise. They made great drinks, and the prices were good too. We enjoyed a snake bite.
