I had my first Scotch Egg here … and as damn Yankee, it was everything I thought it would be and more. My friend and I popped in here on the way home for a round and stayed for 2. Our keep was really nice and as we came late and they were closing up, he wasn’t pushing us out the door, which has happened to me on more than one occasion. Guinness was smooth as ever and poured with the utmost attention. We were there on a Monday night and there seemed to be a robust quiz night going on. Very much a local of the neighborhood but clearly they’ve got an eye out for their customers.

Good ales and scotch eggs with strong mustard made this a worthwhile place to visit. Trivia nights are on Mondays but beware that the main teams are quite good!

This is our local pub. Very friendly and welcoming. We go for the Guinness. My husband is Irish and very fussy about how his pint of Guinness is pulled and is always very satisfied. The food is also very good, fresh and served with a smile in a timely manner. Noise level is very comfortable and always can find a seat. Love this place! Dog friendly too. Try the snickers ice cream sundae!

Gret ambience and a nice local crowd indeed. The food is wonderful. They’re good with meat :-) The cook knows how to handle a steak. Nice backyard terrace. The owner(I guess) knows his way around beer. We drank local ales and were pleasantly surprised. I don’t live around here, but if I would, I would be here a lot.

I am lucky that the Lord Clyde is the closest pub to my front door because it’s a lovely boozer. They like to play some good blues tunes, but at a level that still allows you to maintain a friendly chat with mates. They also have a lovely sunny courtyard all in all a great pub for a chilled out pint.

The sunday roast was mediocre at best, the staff looks like they need a rest or an attitude check and there was a crawling roach on the floor of my broken chair. What else?

I like this pub. It’s never too busy, has a nice wooden interior, outside benches, a nice local crowd, Big mirrors, old style chairs, and a big open fire!!! They also do food but I have yet to try it. Recommend for a few quiet ones or a low key beer evening.

Our food was good enough(goat cheese salad, fish n’ chips, and I don’t remember what else), same with the beers. This is our local friends’ local pub, so it was our first stop after arriving at their place for our visit. They had a roaring fire going when we were there, which meant we all emerged smelling like camping. I kinda loved it, though our friends kept apologizing which leads me to believe that not all would love it.

With its newly renovated beer garden, a fab menu(don’t go without trying a Scotch egg with piccalilly!), a good selection of beer on tap and a friendly bunch of folks behind the bar, The Lord Clyde is indeed lord of the Essex Road pubs. I’ve only been twice. But both times I’ve been more than pleased to be there. I’ll be back(soon I hope!) and wish such an accommodating and laid back watering hole was just a little bit closer to where I live. It’s a brilliant place for a small gathering or a chin wag session with a close friend.

i love the pub. it’s very welcoming, but my only complaint is that the kitchen closes at 10pm on a friday night. also, the outdoor space closes at 10pm too. the manager was nice about and realized that we were denied food and outdoor seating. we got a discount on our bread and olives. they don’t allow you to bring in food. i will be back earlier to try some of their eats. looking to award them another star.

Damn tasty scotch eggs. Pork pie is good too. Add this to the real ale festival for St. George’s Day and you have a pretty ideal pub. The owners are fixing it up bit by bit — there’s now a beer garden, just in time for what will hopefully be a nice summer. Will be back to try some proper meals — the bar snacks are so nice the kitchen clearly knows what it’s doing.

Decent pub with a changing selection of ales and remarkable scotch eggs. I went on St George’s day for its mini ale festival, and it’s obvious they care about their beer here. Still too many lager drinkers for my liking, but this place has real potential. It looks like it’s been done up relatively recently, with plenty of dark wood and leather, and the garden out the back should hopefully come in handy this summer.

Not a bad boozer. Harveys Best in good nick. A lot more reasonably priced than the Embassy up the road. Will be back to try the food at some stage soon.

The Lord Clyde is just around the street from me, so it was only a matter of time until I finally came here. It is a warm and friendly local, with a very nice and friendly bar staff, plenty of options for boozing it up, and some tasty treats as well. The main part here has several leather sofas, a few tables of varying size and then several rooms off shooting from it for relaxing and dining. The prices were very reasonable and I was able to have a pint, read a book and not have to deal with a barrage of loud, obnoxious trendsters that tend to linger a bit too much in Islington.

The local neighborhood pub with decent food. I’ve only tried two of their dishes, but I will definitely be coming back to try more.

Proper Ale glasses with dimples and handles. Nice layout. bit gastro with the menu but not overly gastro pub in its feel and its layout. Smelt faintly of smoked kippers(but not in the bad way, honest!) Had 2 ales on tap, including Ferrymans Gold, an award winning golden ale on my first visit but had unsurprisingly run out by second visit. The Ferryman was due to be back on duty the next day, however. There is an English wine there too(I didn’t know such things existed). The landlord still has a few ideas for things he would like to do the pub and if they are along the lines of what he has done so far then that’s a good thing.

Lovely pub up the less fashionable end of Essex Road. It has a proper ‘local’ feel thanks to the regulars and the super-friendly bar staff who introduce themseves and remember your odrer that you wouldn’t expect from the glamorous exterior and chic wood floors. Menu is decent(more gastro-pub than regular fare) and the dishes certainly lived up to expectations.
