A nice pub, even if it is a bit out of the way. The bar staff seem decent and the beer on offer seemed well looked after. My one and only visit here was on the night of Ali Pali’s grand re-opening for firework night. I’m not sure if this was the reason, or that it is pretty much the only pub in the area but it was packed out on that Saturday night. Not a problem unless you’re feeling weary and in need of a seat. We had some bar snacks while there and they were pretty standard fare, they wouldn’t set the world alight but were perfectly passable to eat wih a beer. All in all a nice boozer with good outdoor seating on offer that I would think would be a pleasure to while away the hours in on a warm summer evening.

Nice pub with HUGE windows, which is a wonderful sight in summer — and is actually quite nice to have so much natural light in a pub during the winter. The food here is good, you can get a 2 course lunch for 10 pounds a head, and the portions are not in any way meagre. I have to admit that my macaroni and cheese was a little under-sized compared to my Dad’s Gammon steak, but after the chocolate desert with a salted caramel topping, I wasn’t even hungry by dinner time. Some good ciders available and a decent array of beers for a pretty small pub, but the one thing that lets this place down is the uninterested staff. Not only was the barmaid engrossed in her own phone to even notice new customers coming in for food, but you could clearly hear the kitchen staff f’ing and blinding behind what they supposed were closed doors. Shame, but easily fixed if they could find the right staff or manager to sort them out.

Looks cozy from the outside which it is quite inside but there’s not much seating space inside and not really a standing up pub. Plenty of seats outside which I’d imagine in summer makes it for spacious and fun

Oh I miss the goat cheese and caramelized onion plate. The ciders and bangers to die for. I will be back, I promise!

I really like this pub, even if it is in the middle of nowhere. There is a lovely area to sit outside and the inside of the Maid is very welcoming too. There are 4 ales available. They are a fairly common selection, but in good condition judging by my pint of TT Landlord. They usually have Koppers Kolsch on too, which is an interesting foreign beer choice. Had run out when I dropped by though.

This is a great place for quiet evening drinks, celebrations — I’ve even held business meetings here. The selection of beers and wines are good. The food is always enjoyable, I particularly liked the pork-loin and the burger.

A wonderful place to drink yourself sideways! This is a superb dog-friendly pub with a great patio, friendly staff, funky beers and a great menu. They have some board games as well, but if you are like me you go to a pub to drink, not play Monopoly. Still, some people need to be entertained so it’s cool they have that option. I don’t watch sport, but people do complain about their small old TV. I’ve always thought that was cool though as it keeps the pub for drinking and socialising rather than yelling at a bunch of men in shorts on a screen.

Absolutely love this place! Great food, great selection of premium lagers, ciders and ales(and the rest)! Warm, local atmosphere. Not sports. Music takes a back-seat but i’ve heard everything from Pink Floyd to Thom York(solo) stuff being played here. Do it! Not the place for a «Night Out» but perfect for a quiet local one or Sunday lunch!

Love this place, just down the road from us and has a really nice atmosphere. Often have a regular playing the piano too. They have a fairly standard pub grub menu and the food is nice, £7.95 or so for a tasty roast with a choice of meats. As mentioned above nice choice of beers too. Also check out The Ranelagh which is the Maid’s sister pub down the road near Bounds Green tube.

This is a busy and buzzing local pub, very popular in the neighbourhood. They’ve got some good beers on tap, usually some nice real ales as well as interesting lagers, and a wide selection of wine. The food is good gastropub fare. There’s several tables outside surrounded by a short fence, although it’s on a road with a fair amount of traffic.

Great Beer, Great Garden, Great Cushions — what more can one ask for! Having recently re-discovered this lovely little pub — come bar — come eaterie — I’m loving it. I first visited here a couple of years ago and never stepped a foot back through the door until very recently due to the clicky pompous atmosphere the place had then. So tentatively the fella and I decided to give it another go(due to the fact our ex-local stopped serving any good beer at all — that’s a whole other review!) and made the little journey to the pub down the hill. Completely different atmosphere, we walked in and immediately felt welcomed by the dimmed lighting, big cushions and friendly faces(no stop of talking, heads turn and music stop as in the 1st time I went there). So, walking over the bar we saw a treat our eyes could not believe, if you’re a Belgian beer lover you’ll like it here. 1. Fruli on tap 2. Leffe on tap 3. For the wusses — Hoegarden on tap 4. Duvel bottles in the fridge + many more! They also have my favourtie — Havana Club Golden Rum and 3 year old rum and it’s rather reasonably priced. Leffe is £2 for a half, Fruli is £1.95 a half, 3 yr old rum & cola £3.20! Great stuff in this so called recession! They also do some great food, £5 menu, lurvely chicken burger, but I think this menu changes quite regularly which could be nice. The menu is English traditional food, looks nice but I’ve never tried it so can’t say. If you like to drink good beer have a chat with friends and maybe listen to a live pianist(Sunday only) or play a board game or two this is the place for you. It’s not a loud place, just a nice cozy place to go with nearest and dearest or mates. One downside, the back little garden needs a tidy up, toooooo much rubbish! It’s not like a tip but there are smallish piles of rubbish in the corners and they just need to tidy it up one afternoon! Otherwise great stuff!

This is the only pub on the whole road, there is a bar opposite called elements, but it attracts a complete different crowed. So basically, if you are on this road, and looking for a pub, it will have to be the Maid of Muswell. I do like this pub, it has a nice garden and nice seating area in the front of the pub. It is definitely well kept and the staffs are quite friendly. On the few occasions that I have been here with my friends, I have felt a little out of place because it is not a loud place, it seems more like a pub for the locals, something that the community are proud of. Though, on the other side of the coin, I have been with my girlfriend, had a mediocre roast dinner and chilled out there for hours.

How to… Enjoy a good Sunday: Step 1: Go for a walk on Hampstead Heath Step 2: Go home and polish off a good roast Step 3: Go for a drink and a spot of board game playing at The Maid of Muswell Our European friends have definitely got the right idea when it comes to whiling away the hours whilst enjoying an afternoon drink. The Greeks will spend hours hunched over a coffee table playing Tavli(Backgammon) whilst in Spain I’ve been coaxed into many afternoon card games with the locals, but the British don’t seem to enjoy this sociable and friendly accompaniment to their tipple. the Maid of Mus is a sweet natured, local-style pub, with friendly staff and drinkers, the food’s good and they have a nice stack of board-games on the shelf near the bar that you can help yourself to. They have all the old favourites like Scrabble, Snakes and Ladders and even Monopoly(how long have you got?). Most importantly they’re not missing any of the pieces(ever set up a game only to realise that the dice are missing? Arrrrrrgh!) We always take the table to the left as you walk through the door as it’s nicely tucked away. A combination of drinking and board-games brings out the best and the worst in people so it’s always fun to see what the result will be. I’ve even brought unsuspecting men in here for the board-game test!

The Maid of Muswell is a must go to pub. It has lots of space to sit out side on a nice day or it’s just as nice to sit inside. The staff are very friendly and it easy to get to on Alexandra Park Road. You might even spot a couple of famous faces if your lucky. You would normally find Billy and Little Mo from Eastenders in there. Nice Pub so pop in if your in the area.
