Good little club, nice and intimate for gigs like The Weeknd! Would definitely go back! Although i have no idea of what it’s like as an actual club!

I’ve encountered quite a few rude people/bouncers in the past, but not to the point where I find it necessary to write a full length review. A group of friends and I went here last night. Our group was 80 percent girls, might I add. As we got to the door, which happened to have no line, a few of my friends got rejected at the door for having«trainers» on. Fine, fair enough. After rudely being told to move away, which we had no problem doing, one of the bouncers(whom if I had gotten a name, I would be writing it here right now) proceeded to tell one of the guys in my group, «you are gay, you look gay, you can’t come in, move along»… EXCUSEME!!! I’m sorry, but I am pretty sure that is illegal and is considered under hate crime. After hearing this, a few of my friends, obviously outraged by the comments, tried to get a picture of his badge(which MINDYOU, it is the law to have it displayed at ALLTIMES, I have enough bouncer friends to know this). The owner of the club, who was also hearing this whole thing happen, rudely and patronizingly dismissed us, waving us away and simply stating«it is not my problem». To whomever is reading this: If you come across an overweight, Eastern Europe guy at the door who is slurring homophobic comments, leave while you can. Disgraceful. I will most definitely be following up on the incident as this is quite simply unacceptable. Being rude is one thing, being completely out of line with such remarks at a club like this is another. Such discriminatory comments. I would rate this place no stars if that was an option on this site. I do not think I would ever think of stepping foot in there if I got paid to.

One of my favourite places in Camden. The Electric Ballroom is a two-storey building with two dance floors, a fairly big smoking area and 4 bars. WoooHOoo! They have different djs on each of its floors and different music depending on the night. The music ranges from industrial, punk and metal to drum ‘n’ bass, techno, disco and funk. Its been standing there for over 70 years and it has seen the good and the bad of Camden life/bands etc There’s been talk of demolishing it in order to expand the Camden Tube station but I haven’t seen anything happen. Maybe they’re never gonna do it. During the day, on weekends, the building is an indoor market — nothing fancy– the same stalls you would find outside are inside, just a bit pricier. There is also a currency exchanger just inside the front doors who does quite good rates– if you are a tourist. I like the massive main dance floor, I like the balconies upstairs– great for people watching. I like the 60’s wanna be American dinner look upstairs and nonetheless the mix of people. Everybody minds their own business; literally dancing like nobody’s watching, showing off their«best» moves. Hahaha– there was actually this guy who was trying to impress a girl by sliding down the floor in a very weird way. haha. Oh, if the walls could talk and/or if I had the time to tell every single funny thing i’ve seen in the Electric. aaaaah. Normally the fee is £7 and it doesn’t get busy till around 23.00. They are really serious about checking your bag. They don’t allow chewing gum or beverages from the outside– not even water. They also don’t let you leave the place with anything from the bar — not even a plastic cup of water! I recommend it full heartedly– go, get drunk, dance your head off(to some cheesy songs but nevertheless some good ones as well tee-hee) and have a blast!

A nice big venue with great potential, a decent smoking area, and a few bars. The caveat of my review is that I’ve only been once, and accidentally to the«Inferno» night. The goth scene is not my thing but it was actually really enjoyable! The prices aren’t horrible and I think the space really well suits club nights or gigs. Definitely recommended.

electric ballroom makes me a happy gig goer. for two things mainly: 1. the hilarious sound man who spent the latter half of the gig(when a newer, younger, shinier sound man took over on his newer, shinier, younger sound system-machine thing) looking lovingly at his machinery and possessively guarding his sound booth from younger(but beardier) sound guy’s friends enjoying a beer or three in there. hilarious. i’m a people watcher, what can i say? 2. the irish girl behind the bar who felt my pain at charging me £5.60 for a small bottle of wine. she offered to top up my wine with soda water in a pint glass so that i would feel like i was getting more for my money. you know what? not something i’ve ever considered before, but she was on to a winner. good lass, i feel your celtic tight-ness! it also has other things to offer — good views of the stage, mainly. relatively good sound. plenty of bars, enough toilets for you not to have to queue forever in between bands.

POOR! Awesome band ruined by bar closing at 10.30 which, funnily enough, is never mentioned on the tickets or when booking or anywhere in the venue on the night. Must try harder

I have only been here on 80’s or Goth club nights. I would love to see a band here sometime. The place is deceptively huge… I don’t know how they did it, but the managed to squeeze a large«Ballroom» into a tiny store front. On the nights I’ve been the people were friendly(in fact I met a friend there 11 years ago, and we’ve been good friends ever since), the music was pumping, the dance floor was hopping and the booze was flowing!

I spent the first 10 minutes of my adventure in the Electric trying to decide if I’d been there before. It was so familiar, but I was *sure* I’d never been. I mean, you’d remember something like a music venue, right? Drunk doesn’t erase ticket stubs, does it? But it was uncanny. I knew right where the bathrooms were, I knew right where the coat check was, I knew right where the bars were, and hey, they serve alcohol!(Hummm? That’s a strange thought…) Anyhow, I knew right where the stage was, I knew that popular couple, pretending to be sober, would be making out over there in the corner — and then it dawned on me — this was my high school gym. The only thing missing were the basketball hoops raised safely away, you know, for ambiance. Once I figured out that I’d be seeing a show in my high school gym, I was much more at ease and enjoyed it quite a bit. The space is massive, the queues for the coat check and bars are well organised and move quickly, and the stage is raised so it doesn’t really matter where you’re standing unless you’re right behind Teen Wolf,(which could actually happen here, so be careful).

While I was visiting my family last summer in Colchester, I managed to convince my cousin to come to see a concert in London with me — Spinnerette. Having been a longtime fan of The Distillers, I was stoked to see that Brody’s new band(that’s just as good) was going to be putting on a show while I was going to be visiting. Actually — on a side note, Spinnerette was SUPPOSED to play a show at The Boardwalk while I was going to be visiting in the UK and I was MAJORLY disappointed, so the fact that they managed to have a tour date in London while I was there was true luck! I also found out later that that Boardwalk show was canceled for some reason as well! From the outside, the place doesn’t look that big. But once you’re inside the place is HUGE. Plenty of floor room and seating. There was also an upstairs area and a smoking area towards the back of the venue. My cousin and I managed to score a good balcony area that overlooked the whole place and gave us a good view of the stage. The opening act wasn’t that impressive. I’d never heard of the band and it sounded more techno than anything else. But it was still entertaining. Spinnerette came on afterwards and I sang my heart out! Seeing Brody Dalle in concert after being such a huge fan of hers since I was 14 years old was nirvana! I practically sang along to every song that she sung. We snapped some good photos as well. Being able to see one of my favorite bands and one of my favorite people in another country was truly epic. I will never forget this experience! Also, Camden is an amazing part of London with so much to see. It almost has an urban feel which I love. I was able to find my boyfriend 2 Union Jack lighters and a «Mind The Gap» shirt while I was browsing around before the show. If you happen to visit London someday, make a point to cruise through Camden if you can.

There’s little to differentiate this venue from any of the others, really. Deceptively large. Neither cheap nor expensive nor particularly good beers. £1 coat check per item. Indifferent staff. You’ll really come here for the band on offer. The sound is actually rather good. That’s probably the best thing about it. Make no mistake– this is a big venue inside. That’s all.

This place is deceptively large. From the outside it looks like an everyday club, once you walk through the hallowed entry, you realise you are in a real life live music temple. When the Wild Drums started strumming their guitars, bass and acoustic rhythms literally erupted from the sound system. The magnitude of the reverberations rippled through the entire club. The numerous lights left me in a bedazzled state. The whole set was truly epic. The bar is inexpensive and there are several rooms to relax in away from the main stage and dancefloor. I would say my first venture into Electric Ballroom left me wanting to come back again and again. Great place!

Saw the Get Up Kids here. They are one of my favourite bands. Shame when I got there the place was rammed. But there is an upper floor that you can get too and getting drinks at the bar was easy. Being close to the tube station is pretty convenient too. Good experience

My first outing to Electric Ballroom was what turned out to be one hell of a gig. Personal and Austin, Texas favourites, Spoon was headlining with the always brilliant White Rabbits. The two complemented each other very well. While their sounds are similar, it’s their live performances that really make them solid bands. Electric Ballroom provided as a properly sized venue, with relative easy access to one of the several bars, quick coat-check services and enough room to pack in about 600 people. Overall, my experience here was great, and I will definitely be coming back for more gigs here in the future. Plus being next to Camden Town tube stop doesn’t hurt either!

After being chucked out of the World’s End at close last Friday and not in the mood to be going home, my mates and I toodled down the high street and dove straight into the Electric Ballroom. Stumbling distance from Camden Town Tube station and all good night buses, generally, Friday nights at the Ballroom are known as SIn City playing everything for your Rock/Alternative/Old Rock/Metal needs. Every first Friday of the month is for those of us who like things a little bit darker with Goth/Industrial/EBM taking over the soundwaves. Hella good times. According to their website there is a dress code of dress to depress. I’m sold! Saturday nights are bright and breezey for hose who like their disco and pop. I can’t comment on this seeing as I’ve never been so. I’ll leave this for now. Spread over 2 floors with each playing a different genre of music to get your groove/mosh on to. Upstairs tends to be the more relaxed and old school music. Drinks are typical Camden prices as expected but entry is cheap at £5 before midnight and £7 after. Can’t have everything can you?

I came here on what would have been an otherwise sleepy Wednesday night to see The Used. Having only heard their older, softer albums the night before, I was surprised to see a throng of young punk kids queuing at the front. Judging by the size of the queue, I fully expected to suffocate on all of the teen angst and B.O. But to my surprise, I walked into a very large and spacious venue that had… air conditioning! Upon counting my blessings I found that not only was this place huge, it also has not one but two bars. My friend and I quickly made a beeline for the first bar and were able to pull up seats at a little table at the second bar where we hung out during the first two acts before pushing our way on the floor. I later realized after a very inconvenient bathroom break, that I could have just hung out upstairs where there are several balconies that overlook the floor and the stage. As for the bathrooms I am happy to report that not only was it large but it was also CLEAN! After returning to the floor and avoiding the mosh pits, I made a decision then and there that all music venues should be this awesome.

The Electric Ballroom is a great venue, and has been a cornerstone of London alternative clubbing for years. Just up the road from Camden tube station, the Ballroom holds a range of nights, from techno to pop, as well as the well reknowned metal and rock night Sin City, and the goth and industrial night, Inferno, and has held some incredible live gigs as well. The club is fronted by a wide doorway, where most weekend nights you’ll see a queue of people waiting to get in. Once inside and past the ticket booths and bouncers(who will pat you down and search your bag — best travel light if you’re thinking of going), you’re free to explore the club, which includes the massive main dancefloor to your left, a smaller one upstairs if you fancy a change in style, four bars selling a range of beers, wines and spirits, a coat-check by the door and an open smoking area outside, reached by the stairs up to the far left, past the bar on the left of the main dancefloor. The Ballroom is a massive venue, and it’s recommended you grab a drink and have a good look round when you start, to save you getting lost later! Also, I’ve found that you can keep yourself quite entertained by varying which bar and dancefloor you use throughout the night; try your mad dancing moves on the super-large floor downstairs, and visit the island bar before heading upstairs to survey your fellow dancers before heading into the upstairs room for something different to listen to and a more intimate dancing space. Head outside for a cool down and a breath of fresh, or not so fresh air if you’re a smoker, before rejoining the crowd downstairs. Heck, if that doesn’t keep you occupied, there’s always a pinball machine and a few video games, too! The Ballroom really is the best place to finish off a day in Camden, and if you do some research beforehand at the website, you’ll be sure to find a night suited to your tastes.

This is a review of the Metal night Sin City! Sin City is probably London’s top metal night, it has a great range of music from well known metal bands to the not so well known bands. Songs from every genre are played and everyone is out for a good time. Unlike most clubs this place does not get packed to the rafter, it gets busy but there is always enough room to do your thing. The bar is expensive and can get jammed but never for too long. Hitting on people in Sin City is harder than in most clubs but if you hang around by the bar by the entrance you can chat to people with out having to shout too loudly. The tiolets, as with most clubs, are a disgrace but meh, whatcha gonna do. In all a good night out for a group of friends.

As London venues go, Electric Ballroom is a top spot. Stumbling distance from the Camden Town tube station, it’s certainly convenient for a fun night out. While the sound may not be pristine, if the right band is playing it can add a certain quality to the live show that may be lost in a heavily produced album. Sometimes you want dirty, sludgy, unintelligible rock. I really like the floor at the ballroom. The wooden planks do away with any stickiness and keep the room relatively cool. Except if there’s a sweaty dance party going on — in which case, I don’t think anyone would mind too much, would they? Since this is one of the smaller places to see a gig in this city, I’m a fan. Mind you, ‘small’ is a relative term.

Electric Ballroom is not one of my favourite places in Camden. I’ve been there a few times and find it hopelessly overrated. The crowd are really young, all short skirts and midriff tacks(in the middle of Winter!). Apparently they have some good nights but I’m yet to find one I enjoy. There’s always a massive queue on the weekends, sometimes hundreds of people long. Avoid.

The Electric Ballroom is Camden at its best. It has something for everybody and it’s a really cool venue. They have Sin City on a Friday night which is a heavy, hard rock and metal night which I stumbled into by accident one night and even though it’s not my scene I embraced it and had a brilliant night to remember! If metal isn’t your scene then there’s plenty more on offer, everything from disco to cheesy pop to R ‘n’ B and dance music, you just need to check what’s on before you go if you have a strong dislike of a certain type of music. However, it’s a very sociable place, a bit grimy but that’s all part of the fun. I would however say that it’s a bit overpriced but still a good venue for a night out.
