Its cheap, divey, but its a decent place. Uni Night on Thursdays are always packed and a good time.

A delightful pub for a long-awaited catch up with the friend from out of town or just a small gathering after a day full of exhausting lectures, the New Globe is definitely worth a visit. Right beside Queen Mary, University of London, the general aura of the pub is quite upbeat and friendly considering a lot of clubs and societies from the Student Union hold socials there — not to mention great evenings like ‘poetry’ and ‘music’ nights and other such delights… pop down to see what’s on!

The New Globe is aptly named because it is situated just down the road from The Old Globe, and arguably the clientele are alot younger as well! It is such a quick walk from the QMUL East Gate that this, instead of The Hayfields, is the true student local. which isn’t to say anything bad about Hayfields, it just has a geographical disadvantage. and we’re students! Lazy, malingering toads. Recognising their importance to the younger patrons, The New Globe provide a variety of deals for you! Only £1 a shot of Sambuca, £10 for 10 bottles of Carlsberg(complete with fancy, complimentary Ice Bucket) and £5 for two Jagerbombs(A shot glass filled with Jäger put upside down in a glass of red bull, swiftly drunk). Juvenile things to drink but hey, this is a place for the youth! The furniture is rickety and wooden but this just means you don’t really care when you spill something. An excellent place with an excellent atmosphere.

Why oh why do I keep coming back here? I have a very unhealthy relationship with this bar. It’s like a girlfriend you’ve long since stopped loving but can’t quite bring yourself to leave. Nothing exciting, just comfortable familiarity. Its not pretty, all the tables wobble, there’s no atmosphere to speak of, its constantly full of students and its generally blaring some very crap music. On the face of it there is very little positive to say. And yet in spite of its many flaws I keep coming back. The bar staff know me and they’re always friendly and often throw up the occasional lock in(Oh the wonder of being able to smoke in a bar again). The drinks are dirt cheap with sambuca and carlsberg for a quid and Jaegerbombs 2 fr £5. The New Globe has got under my skin like a virus and I see no sign soon of absconding to a different local.

Look, let’s get this straight. You don’t want to bring your date here to impress. Rather, this is the place you come to if you’re feeling nostalgic and want to get your drink on like you did at Uni. A massive varsity campus sits opposite on Regent’s canal so the place is usually full of students drinking beer and alco-pops and eating really cheap(yet tasty) pub food which some of them might then unceremoniously deposit outside on the pavement. It sits on Mile End road spitting distance from Regents Canal so an exit can be made swiftly if needed — especially if you happen to have a kayak stashed nearby. I reckon it would get pretty rowdy in here on a Friday night. Not tried that yet,(back problems you see) — but did stop by one afternoon en route to Roman Road and was pleasantly surprised by the friendly staff, cheap and cold beer and tasty baguette that cost a whopping £3.50. I ended up staying for a second — or was it third(?) pint.
