There are plenty of pubs in the area to choose from, but not a single one deserves your custom as much as the Old Ivy House. There’s a number of reasons to like it, but I’ll start with the biggest… The owner. I love that guy. He’s so pleasant, so cheerful, so happy to see you. And you know what? He will remember you! He will see you walk in the door, greet you, and start pouring your usual before you even reach the counter. I love that guy. The beer is well-priced, as is the wine and the food. I’ve never had a meal, but I have munched on the snacks and they were good enough for me! The pub is a mix of locals and after-work drinkers. It’s never too full, but never feels empty. Oh, and the other best thing? Dog friendly. You know I love a dog friendly pub. Long story short: I really like this place. I like the owner, I like the barkeepers, I like the couches and the music and the strange little nook with seats and a telephone.

Stopped in to meet a friend, Mel, on her lunch break as this is her local. Good Thatchers cider on tap and a cheap lunch express menu. I had the steak and chips option which was a gamble that didn’t quite pay off — a bit on the tough side, but the chips were fantastic. Warren got the fried haddock and chips which he said was pretty good and Mel being a vegetarian opted for cheesy chips which she devoured. The staff are super friendly and recognise Mel as a local and the ambience is really great with a quirky décor. I would come here again but would try something other than the steak.
