We had an enjoyable experience at the Real Greek. I enjoy Greek food, but on a previous visit to a different restaurant in the chain I think I just ordered badly. This time we were guided a little bit more by the set menu for £10 which is really good value. For that you get the choice of flat bread or crudités, hummus or tztatziky or some crushed pea thing plus a main(which there were like six choices for). Plus rice, chips or salad. All the food was exile t — we ordered a spicy feta dip from the main menu which was also really nice and the cheesecake. Boy that was some good cheesecake. I’d go back for that alone. Of course there were some minor problems — there was way too many plates on a tiny table and the plate stacking things meant that you couldn’t see across the table when the mains turn up and you’re still enjoying the starters. The wait staff were very busy, so we were only checked on once and it took a while to get the bill. But I’d happily go back because the food was just that good.

We were going to see a play at the Noël Coward Theatre across the street, so decided The Real Greek would be convenient, and something a bit different for us. We’d only been to TRG once, the Westfield branch, and we weren’t horribly impressed. This time though we enjoyed things much more. They do a set meal for £10, quite a few choices. I had flatbread, tzatziki, a lamb kofte, and some rice. OH had the same, but his dip was hoummus and he had fries instead of rice. We also had a spicy feta dip and some olives, both of which we paid extra for. Everything tasted fresh and tasty. The feta dip wasn’t at all spicy, though, and my lamb kofte was a bit under in the middle — but it was more than I could eat so I was okay just eating around the middle. The tzatziki was quite sharp but in a nice way, but considering the kofte came with more of it, we had too much. The hoummus was nice, the saffron rice had lots of flavour, and I am already craving more of their flatbread. We now were all done, but had 45 minutes to kill. So… cheesecake. Even stuffed, we finished it and it was really nice — creamy and not too dense and a perfect end to the meal. The service was friendly, but slow and we weren’t checked on enough. It was also quite warm in the restaurant. We had to ask for our bill twice, and then no one came for the card so we dug out cash and left. All in all, a decent choice, especially considering it’s a chain. Our meal for 2 with no alcohol came to £37.
