So I have to say on a rainy Friday night this was a great haven in our way home. We got a £17 bottle of Sauvignon blanc and parked at the pub with some fries, mergus sausages and some other nice little nibbles. Great little place to grab drinks and food!

Go here for quiz sometime on a Tuesday’s. Quiz is usually running late and you can’t book. Quiz prize is a bottle of cheap wine. There is a jackpot that you can win with one right answer right at the end. I would go a different Tuesday quiz to be honest. Food is pretty good. Lots of vegetarian options and lots of the general pub burger etc offerings. Their Dahl/veg curry is generally great and no need for salt. Lots of little share bits to choose from too. Their house red is very easy to drink. Bar service is sometime super super slow but there are a couple of fantastic guys working there too. Have walked out before as I was at the bar and no one served me and it wasn’t busy.

The Roebuck will always have a special place in my heart because my old LSE dorm was just down Great Dover Street from it. It’s a quaint little English pub with an event space upstairs that is used for trivia on Tuesdays and Bang Said the Gun, a weekly slam poetry/stand-up show(check their Facebook page to make sure they’re running though!) «Bang» is great fun — highly recommend dropping in if you’re ever in the Southwark area. For £5, it’s a well-paced, highly interactive smörgåsbord of performances that will make you laugh, or cry, if you’re an emotional sod like me. The tap upstairs is limited though, so if you’re there for an event get your drinks downstairs. There are a few different ales and ciders on tap usually– nothing out of the ordinary. I’ve tried the food a few times and it’s OK, but I feel like some of the main dishes are bit overpriced. The chips are pretty tasty and come in a big enough portion to share with a buddy. I once ran into David Cross here!!! Amber Tamblyn was actually participating in «Bang» that night(she was awesome). I did not get a chance to ask him about the AD movie. what an unlikely place to run into one of your comedy idols…

Net go to self, go back here for a casual drink to properly evaluate the place. This review will be short and sweet, mainly because I couldn’t focus on the pub itself what with being so excited that my FRIENDSWEREENGAGED. However, I do remember that that it was a glorious day, we reserved the top floor which was light, airy and not too hot. Didn’t have its own bar so ewe had to go downstairs everytime we wanted a drink. I also remember there not being a beer garden so people had over spilled into the street. But the food looked good, nice menu selection. The drinks were reasonably priced and the place had that middle class London sophisticated gastropub feel.

This place was a refreshing find in Southwark. The atmosphere reminded me vaguely of Portland — a little hipstery and bohemian but with that latent refinery to make it nice. The highlight of this place was the open-air feel, with ample outside seating and bright, open windows. The staff was attentive and happy — frankly, a stark contrast from many of the other eateries in the city. That is a plus that was not overlooked. The food itself, as others mention, IS a bit steeply priced. I ordered the Sunday roast of chicken and was quite pleased with the texture of the chicken itself; the sauce, not so much. However, my friend’s hake was well-cooked and had a subtle sweetness to it. Overall, a nice twist on pub food and I would most definitely return.

This place is great! The fish and chips were superb! Definitely one of the best we’ve ever have! Cider was good– beer selection also great. The only downside was that it was a little pricey— but for the quality— I’d say it was fair. I would 100% recommend this to anyone looking for solid food in this neighborhood with friendly service and comfortable atmosphere. YAYROEBUCK!

The Roebuck offers a spacious interior, high ceilings, friendly staff, perfect tables on which to play board games with friends and better than expected beers. Indeed, the beers. In and amongst the usual suspects are a few surprises. Like the smoked German one and Cotswold ale I enjoyed on the evening I was there, next to a couple of solid efforts from Meantime. Definitely worth popping into for a relaxing evening over a good quality pint, particularly if with a large group.

Nice pub, suitable for large parties and loud behavior :) We love coming here because of the feeling you get when you enter it is just great. The drinks are always served fast to us and the waiting staff polite, as we are royalty.

For six months I lived about a mile away from this pub. I would ride past it on the 21 bus, where it even has a bus stop named after it, taunting me. For six months I wanted to stop in because it looks so refined and happy, with tons of tables outside in the summer, and a comfy interior. But, it wasn’t until the last week of my sixth month that I finally got around to visiting and boy was I sorry I hadn’t visited sooner. The Roebuck is super low-key and awesome. It’s only the ground floor because they haven’t done up the top floors yet(as we found out when we tried to mount the grand staircase which was beckoning us upwards). The back area has eclectic seating, with comfy leather couches and a giant glass roundtable. The front area is more dine-in friendly, with matching tables and chairs. The staff is friendly and normal. They’ll answer your questions and help you out when needed but they’re not all up in your grill or ignoring you to be cool. The prices are excellent! We tried quite a few of their draught offerings(including Meantime and a couple real ales) and went back for our favorites without passing the £20 mark. In short, The Roebuck would’ve been our perfect local and I’m glad we had a chance to check it out before we moved.

I’ve lived in the area for 10 years and the Roebuck has been a staple local for me. It’s got a lovely atmosphere, good selection of drinks(including a great spirits section), and pretty good food. In the summer, there is lots of outdoor seating and in the winter, it feels totally warm and cosy.

it’s hard not to fall in love with a bar with class. The Roebuck, right down the street from the Borough Tube Station, is a bar with class through and through. A grandiose and airy space with high ceilings, red walls and great art on the walls(we think we sat next to a giant painting of Bambi all grown up. That was the group consensus.) If I lived closer, this could become my local without a doubt. The staff was friendly as they could be, answering questions about drinks and giving suggestions. Not just one bartender but everyone I talked to. We were there for a game night and they even had the perfect table for us — a giant glass round one that made any game we played easy to play. The staff even chatted with me about the games we were playing and didn’t get angry when we got a little loud(and possibly a little annoying.) And holy god the drinks were cheap. £2 to £4 for a beer depending on what you were getting. Unheard of. Literally the only thing that drops them a star is the food(a common complaint it now seems after reading the other Unilocal reviews.) It was just… eh. I got the steak burger with steak fries and everything was disappointing. Not hot enough, not really that tasty, I ate about half of it before letting the waitress take it away. Ah well. Still, for a drink and good times with friends, I truly love this space.

I lived in the Borough for a week or so with my cousin – The Roebuck was our go to pub! It was over the summer and we often hung out on the benches with rounds of cider. The bartenders were friendly and upstairs is a lounge with a huge projector screen where we watched Wimbledon. The fish and chips were delicious too!

As a frequent visitor to the neighborhood over the last few years, I was surprised to only recently discover The Roebuck. It’s quite a spacious pub, with mismatched tables in the main room and a couple of couches in a smaller back room. There’s also an upstairs private room for functions, etc. I went in for lunch and was happy to see an unexpected variety of both appetizers and main dishes. It seems that the menu changes quite often and doesn’t include a lot of typical pub fare. I had the steak burger, yet had I not been craving a burger, I would’ve had a hard time choosing from a menu that included a beetroot & goat cheese salad, butternut squash risotto, smoked duck salad, and pan fried skate. There was also a small selection of homemade desserts, such as sorbet and apple tart. The beer selection was decent, with a small variety of draughts and bottles. I was here early afternoon on a Saturday and found the atmosphere to be very pleasant. The bartenders were friendly and there was a varied crowd of both young and old having a pint and playing board games. I’m assuming that it attracts quite a large local crowd, especially on trivia night.

The atmosphere is really cool to hang out. We got fish and chips, hummus, and steak fajita. I think the only thing that was somewhat good was the fish and chips, the rest were kinda meh. I’d go back for drinks and hang out, but not for food.

I ventured in here at some point after my eighteenth birthday because I was excited about my newfound legality in terms of drinking in an actual watering hole, and as my local I figured The Roebuck would be a great place to start. I’ll admit I was a little apprehensive at first because generally speaking Southwark doesn’t have many nice pubs going for it. I wasn’t wrong though because I loved the place. The edgy prints & paintings on the walls provide a bit of eye candy as does the architecture of the Victorian building, inside and out. There’s always been good music on when i’ve come in and the food is very good as far as pub grub goes my personal favourite dish is the veggie sausages with mash and onion gravy. The bar staff are always exceedingly welcoming and friendly. All-in-all, definitely one of the best pubs i’ve been to.

What a lovely pub. I at first thought it might be a bit gastro, but I think it knows where the line is because most of the people in the pub seemed to be just there for drinking and no-one has an issue with that. There was an upstairs so maybe that is more foodie. I actually had the most unusual, but very tasty and messy Celeriac rosti burgerwhich was a special that they were experimenting with. I was asked my opinion. which was definitely in the positive. Some people might find it a bit dimly litbut it felt kinda right somehow. The drinks were mostly from purity(their 2 excellent ales) and Meantime(they had a smoked beer. but it was a bit strong(6% +) for the first drink of the evening). The bar staff were friendly(and the barmaid was stunning). Definitely a place I will be coming back toI’m pretty sure I came here 10 years ago to watch some football, but it was a very different species then!

Walking into this light and airy pub you instantly feel at ease. The bar staff are ultra friendly and the deco and laid back vibe is perfect for a Sunday afternoon. They’ve got copious amounts of board games which help you while away the hours and while it’s not too far from the centre, it’s far enough to be much more chilled out. Sadly, the food isn’t as good. Having not had a roast dinner since Christmas, I was wholeheartedly looking forward to the works. Being vegetarian, I take my roasts without the meat so it all hinges on the potatoes and my favourite thing in the world — Yorkshire puddings. boy was I disappointed. ‘It’s way to flavoursome’, I said to my mates. At which point they berated me for being so common. But seriously, the tatties were covered in rosemary or some other such herb. The carrots were smothered in wholegrain mustard and the Yorkshire pud was burnt to a cinder. There was a nut roast, but this tasted like flowers. Thankfully they do bog-standard crisps too!

I have always favoured The Roebuck over other London Bridge/Borough pubs as the pub has a relaxed and unpretentious feel and manages to attract a varied young and local clientele. We sat on a long oak table and happily swapped between playing Guess Who and Connect 4 for a few hours the moved on to their extensive bar menu. I was disappointed that on a Saturday night they didn’t have ANY of the three main dishes that we asked for. We instead decided to order burgers, which were fine though we were all disappointed with the chips and the ketchup that accompanied them(the chips were undercooked and they seemed to have run out of tomato ketchup so gave us a poor passata instead) They have a good range of local beers(they stock 4 types of Greenwich Meantime beer) and a selection of organic ciders.

Whatever else the Roebuck might be it’s certainly individual. It attracts a hugely varied crowd from scenesters, to poets, artists and a few locals. Principally this is because it really is able to cater to all tastes. The interior is traditional enough with lots of wood and a wonderful horse-shoe shaped bar but it reamins quirky with a selection of very intriguing contemporary art that adorns the walls. Downstairs is the bar area which features lots of comfy, battered-looking sofas whilst upstairs is much more spacious and plays host to DJs and poetry nights. Food-wise The Roebuck goes for an organic local flavour packing in fresh ingredients to create a very original menu of international and British cuisine. Whats more they constantly update to follow the seasons so you’ll usually find something new and interesting to try. To match the food the drinks menu is brimming with organic ales, ciders, lagers and wines. Because of the organic nature prices are a little higher than I might have hoped but the flavour was enough to justify that extra expense. With its combintation of classicism and modernity and its constant desire for reinvention, The Roebuck guarantees it will be here for a long time to come.
