Wow, not sure where all the mediocre stars come from. I hate it when people don’t know how to Unilocal appropriately! Everyone says the food was great. It is! It’s not pricey for London either. If you think it’s pricey, don’t go in for gods sake because you obviously cannot afford it! Now that I’ve finished my rant, let me tell you that I loved it here and will be back. I went with 3 colleagues all different nationalities and we all agreed it was super, even spending 3 hours there! We had the burger, the chicken pot pie, the hummus plate, the baked camembert, bread and olives and everything was fresh and delicious. Especially the chicken and the cream sauce in the pie. The sauce was perhaps a touch too vinegary still for my liking but that’s ok. The texture was creamy perfection and the best I’ve ever had outside of home cooked. The Rose was very good if a little light and the others loved their cocktails. We did try a few of the lighter local beers and honestly could not distinguish them from Coors light! so I would steer clear of those. The serving staff was marvelous and well, I cannot say enough except that we will definitely be back!

I would like to give it a 3.5 not because it’s bad but it is a little too pricey. The end of the day its a pub. On the flip side the food is decent and I can only imagine the Chiswick high road rent rates. I would go back I’m not rushing to

My local! This is an excellent pub with a very decent restaurant at the back offering the gastro experience. It also has a cool beer garden for(the few) warm summer evenings. Ales are changed regularly so there’s always a few guests available on tap. The wine and spirits list is also large enough to offer a varied selection.

Nice pub this. Big garden out back. lots of chiswick yummy mummies. And some very very good food. Problem is, you pay for it. I had a cod dish with cockles and a nice sauce. It was delicious. Well cooked. Lovely fresh fish etc etc. But the dish was approaching £20. I could have gone to La Trompette and paid similar prices. I’m not sure it’s a pub’s place to be serving food that expert and that expensive. Its just not right! It’s a pub innit. Pubs are for drinking, lest we forget. There are some brilliant places within the mile that strike the balance just right. Good food at something approaching reasonable prices. Or if they are a bit expensive the environment is just a bit nicer. So whilst I cant fault the food or the service, It’s just a bit confused for me. Eating a cod dish like that on a wobbly table outside with a load of nippers running around. Dunno. Lovely and all that, but there’s something wrong. So says this old stick in the mud Londoner anyway.

Very average. Drinks are okay, bar staff are variable, seating is atrocious for a place of its size. Nice to sit outside and people watch, as long as it’s not raining. But you can find better in Chiswick.

I visited ‘The Roebuck’ on a blisteringly hot October afternoon specifically to try their much vaunted Sunday Roast Lunch. I walked in at 12:30pm and approached the bar. The friendly bartender recommended I go to the back if I wanted table service. A rather large lady said: «The tables were all booked, even though I know it doesn’t look like it, why not find a seat in the garden» Considering she herself had just returned from said garden you think she would have realised it was jam packed. Undaunted I returned to the pub area with the friendly guys who took my order and I went to sit down with a lager in hand. The plate arrived surprisingly quickly and consisted of a large slice of roast beef with a lot of fat on it, some sliced carrots and cabbage leaves with a thin gravy, two large roast potato chunks, a generous dollop of horseradish sauce and a large Yorkshire pudding on top. The beef was juicy, rare and tender enough to be cut with the regular knife they had given me. Good, but not great. The problem was that once I had trimmed the fat off there was not really much there. The potatoes had a nice crispy texture but were a little undercooked on the inside. The horseradish was really hot AND creamy and suited the beef nicely. The carrots & cabbage were nothing special and made me wonder if the plates were at least partially pre-done(?) the gravy was OK but I prefer a thicker more flavourful style. The Yorkshire pud was lovely and probably the best component of the meal in terms of standard. Obviously, my expectations were high as ‘The Roebuck’ proudly states«Its official — we have been voted by W4 website as having the best Sunday Roast in Chiswick!» on its own webpage. I personally found it struggling to reach OK overall. Some years ago I wrote the nearby ‘High Road Brasserie’ served Chiswick’s best Sunday Roast and nothing I have since sampled had led me to change my opinion, certainly not from here.

It is not about the taste. It is about presentation, very unique and sophisticated presentation. That is what you are paying for. I enjoyed the presentation so I give three stars.

Great local gastropub with a young, trendy clientele. Drinks prices totally reasonable for Chiswick. Can’t wait to try the food next time, but this time we were tempted away by Franco Manca.

A pub in all senses of the word. And British in all senses of the word. So, you can expect decent beer, average atmosphere, and awful food. It does appear that they are trying to dream up a menu out of normal boundaries. But this? It was an epic fail on all levels. I chose some kind of lamb rolled up brasciole style. Usually brasciole is filled with breadcrumbs, parsley, and a variety of variable vegetables or pignoli nuts. This was filled with fat. I had to cut around it to try and enjoy the lamb. It doesn’t make for elegant eating when your plate is left with a pile of fat tissue and grease spots sitting on it after finishing. Or getting through what you could finish. Unusually quiet for a British gastropub, which in my opinion is definitely a good thing. I would go back for a beer, and maybe a lunchtime sandwich. Just not dinner.

This is a well laid out pub with big comfortable tables for eating out. We shared a starter board which was fine but not mind blowing and I liked my main course of sea bass although honestly I don’t eat enough fish to tell if it was top quality. Service was swift, unobtrusive and pleasant. The thing that annoyed me about this place was the music. All you could hear was this really annoying booming bass line. It was grating and also totally unnecessary because there was already a great atmosphere in the place that didn’t need any augmentation.

The Roebuck has really come into its own in the last year. I had dinner with friends the other week and it was one if the best I have ever had. I was IMPRESSED. and I still dream about it. good wines, good service, good menu that changes often. Very reasonable for price. Love it

Excellent pub. Really great vibe and open space. The clientèle is a mix but nods to the young professionals and if you’re familiar with the heritage of the site, you’ll find it’s a welcoming group indeed. If I had any reasons to go back to Chiswick, I’d certainly make this my pub of choice. Little loud if it gets busy, but that’s probably my only complaint.

I’ve been coming here for a few years now and have always had a good experience. The food is usually pretty good(a chef friend I took here once commented that the salsify was overcooked so who was I to argue), freshly prepared with care. I went in on Monday night for a drink and got some food(rocket salad with broad beans and feta and then their chicken pie with mash). You’re not going to get anything super innovative but it you are looking for an honest meal, this is the place!

Not for nothing, it was 2007 runner up for best gastro pub of the year by Time Out. A very airy feel throughout, wooden dominates as a decorating material and don’t judge the roe’s horns, they form part of the mood. Three very distinct section form the entire pub. The front bar, the dining area and the walled garden at the back– a real sun trap! In case you get lost the areas are all clearly labelled on the entering arch of each section. Service is friendly and prompt, they have always made suggestions as to what to try and they are almost always right. For instance, the fish stew with steamed mussels, clams, fennel, new potatoes & saffron rouille(£12.50) and the dark chocolate pudding with raspberry sorbet(£5) is simply divine. If the credit crunch is crunching your purse then try their £5 lunch, not as extensive as their a la carte menu, but still worth a try.

The Roebuck — A good example of a gastro pub. Wooden floors and comfy seating, good food that the owners care about passionately and an area outside for the good weather although this could do with a bit of a tidy up. This is part of a small chain of gastro pubs and the last one to open, consequently the owners have a tried and tested formula for setting up a successful pub. Menu’s are changing daily and they offer a typical pub food along with a selection of more upmarket offerings. It has a pub an area at the front which is typical pub where you can enjoy the bar food and then a more upmarket area at the back which is more«select» and like a restaurant offering more adventurous food. Being on the High Road it has a good vibe and is one of the places to be on the week-end. Give it a go — it is a nice place to be and one of Chiswick’s better pubs
Great gastro pub, which has everything you could want. Good beer, decent selection of wines and good eats. The food was really amazing, good, fresh and cozy. Nothing fancy, but just well done classics with some fresh new takes thrown in the mix. The staff was friendly and the vibe of the place was inviting, a place where you could easily idle away long evenings with good friends.
