They have a delectable selection of beers! Jasmine Green Tea Weiss Beer?! Yes, it’s delicious. Marvel at bearded men drinking Rose Ale! Either a perfect way spoil a pint or refreshing delight? I’m in the school of for the win! Well priced, unpretentious pretentious pub food. Anyone that deep fries a sprig of rosemary for free is fine with me.

My mate asked me to meet him here. Yeah, it’s fine for that and moving on quickly. He was a few minutes late so I got an alleged Bloody Mary. The colour was right but it was overly spicy, nearly coughed up a lung on the first sip. Shabby chic? No, shitty chic. Come on, retro style doesn’t mean the ripped up couch tossed out 2wks ago by the neighbours. I remember this place under the old management and it’s the same tat. They have the space and available beer garden. Sort this mess out.

Really nice pub that hasn’t changed in all the time I’ve lived in the area. Consistently friendly and switched-on bar staff who go out the way to accommodate you. Good music in the background, often swaying between arty rock into punk, depending on who is on the bar. Occasional gigs in here are great as it’s such an intimate place. Food is always good, though not really food that you’ll be talking about for days and then writing into Time Out with wild tedium. Beer selection is amazing, and there’s always some great stuff on tap. Late at night it’s always got a great atmosphere, and the seating means you’re not all ghettoed into booths away from the next person, so it can be quite sociable. As an usual twist for London, you might even end up speaking to a stranger. Only complaint is that the ‘restaurant’ at the back always makes the front a little bit cramped.

Nice little pub in between New Cross and Deptford. Pretty lively on a Friday or Saturday night and a nice place to stop off at before heading out.

Love this place, we found it when househunting around Deptford and needed liquid refereshment. On a main road it was the perfect choice. Yummy selection of pub snacks, the chorizo in cider sauce was incredible as were the rosemary sweet potato fries. YUM. Washed down with some ciders(at a reasonable price), how can you complain?! Love the décor too, very shabby chic and appropriate to Deptford. Shabby sofas dotted around the place, no clean furniture theme but interesting pieces that the owner obviously liked. And we liked them too!

The original trendy pub. Before Soho and Hoxton started buying in beaten up furniture and taxidermy to turn their sharp wine bars in to old dodgy looking traditional pubs — Long before that was The Royal Albert. If you’re looking for some old books you’ll never read, an empty kitche mini bar with a stuffed owl barman in the seating area and of course a billiards board — you’re in the right place. Normally I’d scoff at this sort of establishment, but it comes so naturally with the Royal Albert and there’s little pretension about it.(Well no more than any Goldsmiths Student attracting business). They’ve got a great selection behind the bar that wont break the bank. I enjoyed my 7.5% cloudy apple cider in a proper old mans pint glass which added to the enjoyment I feel. It’s a nice big space with chairs, tables and sofas and so perfect for big groups of people and individuals alike. Even on a Friday night you can see the odd young-un bringing in a book to read over their ale. One of the better more authentic places in the area.

A nice pub near Goldsmiths, with a pretty good selection of beers curated by one of the managers. I’ve not managed to eat here, as I showed up one Sunday night(not too late, mind) with thoughts of dinner, only to find they’d stopped serving. But, I’ve had drinks, and enjoyed the atmosphere and selection. It’s not the biggest craft beer list in London, by far, but you’ll find some nice bottles and taps.

Love this place. Good beers, good food — especially the burgers and roasts, good tunes and good bar staff. Winner.

Great pub. Very nice atmosphere, nice staff, great interior design and good choice of drinks. They do quiz night on Monday and roasts on Sunday. Only slight ctitisism is cost of food. It’s tasty, but a tad expensive for what it is. On the plus side, there is free wifi!

Great Pub, by far the best in the area!

This is our local — the food is always very good here — not an extensive menu but everything they do on there is excellent, generous roasts on a Sunday. Nice décor however some of the sofas in the front of the pub are shot but it just adds to the character of the place. Board games available and they have started showing big football games on the widescreen which brings in a different crowd but it’s well balanced with students. Friendly helpful staff — it ticks lots of boxes in an area that is short of good drinking holes.

Formed from the ashes of the old Paradise bar the Royal Albert is tucked away just down from New Cross train station. On first entry you’d be forgiven for thinking you’d stepped into a set piece from David Lynch’s Blue Velvet. Dated armchairs, standard lamps, rouge walls all add to a slightly eerie and surreal ambience that descend on the place during it’s emptier moments. At busier times however the Albert really comes into it’s own. There’s a nice social atmosphere to this pub and it’s quiz every other Monday is highly enjoyable. Get yourself down here if the chance presents itself. Particularly notable if you enjoy a pewtered tankard for your ale!

Royal Albert, New Cross. This is an extremely hospitable pub made out of comfortably scruffy settees and plush art deco lamps. Noone will ever fail to feel at home here amid the excellent mix of people, young and old alike complemented by the friendly bar staff. My girlfriend always opts for the bottled cherry beer that she suggests is the tastiest drink around and they have a good selection of beers on tap. They have also recently started serving a decent selection on food.
