Does a nice pint of Perroni, is down a charming funny little side street/alley, and is one of the few old school boozer-like pubs in the area. Otherwise nothing in particular to note

Excellent little pub in the heart of the City. I agree with Bonusmile — definitely a great venue for a few pints after work — but disagree slightly in that I would give this place four stars instead of three. When one considers the competition in this area(not all that hot, to be honest) The Ship is definitely the Boozer of Choice when I am in the area. It’s also very convenient for the Rajasthan on Monument Street, my favourite curry house in the City of London.

This pub is found on the other side of the road and about 200 paces from The Red Lion. exactly the same distance from the road that seperates them… and upon entry, a little glance upon the menu lets you in on the dirtiest of dirty secrets. the pub are unidentical twins. Their mother must have split them up at birth and raised one at sea and one in the jungle, and now after having grown up, moved home and spread their roots, that they live so close to one another… The pub attracts mainly male clientele so I would advise against it if you are a woman. not out of any fears or anything but Christ you would have to work hard to fit in! This place specialises in pies, and you can find a wide variety here to sate even the most obsessive pie enthusiast. The pub itself though is a bit dour. Small and with a little TV screen that wasn’t even turned on(Maybe not as bad as turning off Sports for plain News but it’s up there), the bartender is a suspicious man who didn’t like a youngling in his stately public house. I quickly got the hint from his affronting stares and left… I know which sibling I prefer!

Hidden away in one of those Diagon Alley-like byroads of Gracechurch St., The Ship is a natural retreat for the homeless whitecollars that flood Gracechuch after 5 p.m. The Ships got a charming patina and is usually crammed with people(which is not surprising since the place is really SMALL) — you have no choice but to get in touch with the locals(for whatever you call«local» in the City). If you dont find a place inside you might as well hang out outside — together with quite a few other unfortunate ones. The place is always good for a decent afterwork pint. There is nothing special about it — except of course for the fact that almost all of the other places around here close at 5 p.m. ;)
