Such a friendly, welcoming, underrated place. I have been going past this pub for about a decade but had always discounted it I guess, because this was my first visit. Windsor + Eton fresh green hop is a seriously good beer and we enjoyed it with an excellent backing track, played at just the right volume so you don’t have to speak up when talking to your friends.

A good selection of beers and a decent spot for work drinks but I thought the food was really, really average — was expecting better from their website and the wait for the table

Overall, I like the Square Pig. It has big, bright windows, the interior is new and fresh, and the beer selection is decent. On the downside, it has stupid hours. It’s not open most of the weekend. And the staff makes it clear that it’s your pleasure to be served by them. Personally, I tend to work around both these faults, but others can be quite bothered by the ample ‘tude here.

Ducked in for a quick pint whilst on holiday. It was only about 6pm, but the place still seemed relatively quiet. Seemed like a local watering spot for nearby study abroad types. Wouldn’t go out of my way to find it again.

I’ve been back twice since my last review, so I want to be sure and give an updated version, since the last time I had been there for a school-sponsored event and wasn’t totally sure I got the right experience. In late April, when the weather was truly glorious, I stopped for lunch here with friends. The patio was completely jam packed, but we got a table in the back room near my favorite wallpaper and dug into some food. They really have a great menu, actually, which is something I didn’t have a proper appreciation for in my last review. I had a mind-blowing salad and some chips that made me one happy un-hungry human when all was said and done. I’m still a huge fan of the fact that they have Meantime on tap, and other great beers too. Service is always good any time I’ve been, both table service, and at the bar. I’d love to go back and check out the downstairs bar… it’s not really a secret bar, but it seems to have its own atmosphere, so it’s time to explore more!

This place was a great find when I was hungry in London. The pork pie was delicious, and the portion was pretty hefty for the low price. I would definitely be a regular here if I lived in London. My only complaint is that the server ignored us. I had to get up and ask for the check, even though I was one of two people in the restaurant at 2pm. Also, the servers were just eating at a table 2 away from me. WTF, eat out of sight or when you are off from work.

I came here for a CouchSurfing meetup, and I really don’t see how the ratings for this place are so low. The bartender Sebastian from Romania is awesome, and is a super fun and friendly dude. The beer selection is pretty good. I mean, this place isn’t anything special, but it was a decent spot to spend an evening out.

I don’t usually review pubs, but this place was pretty cool. Any pub that sells Rekorderlig gets my vote(a posh swedish cider thats literally AMAZING) also liked the cheeky little slogans written behind the bar, such as ‘Everyone needs to believe in something, I believe I’ll have another beer’ and ‘be a pig, get some crisps!’ LOL. love it! especially sitting out in the sun with my dad…

It’s not an amazing place but it’s got a decent amount of room and the atmosphere isn’t bad. It could do with being brighter inside though.

This place gets packed, especially with the after work crowd, but then who wants to go drinking in an empty bar with no atmosphere! I’ve only eaten here once and that was a while ago, but the food was good and not over pricey.

The only thing this place has going for it is its location. For lack of other pubs in the area, the square pig is a popular place for local business people to meet up after work for a drink. The bar staff are rude, confused, and over all sub par on customer service. So often they have a majority of the seats and tables ‘reserved’ for a large party that you will be told you aren’t allowed to stand near the tables or in certain parts of the pub. The staff will treat you like you are in their way and that they would rather you were not there at all. If you can avoid coming here, do so.

I went here with friends for a quick after work drink… and it was fine… nothing special. There is an outdoor area which would be really nice, except everyone out there smokes, which pretty much ruins the atmosphere and the air quality. The interior is fine… just get there early to get a table and seat. The drinks are inexpensive, and the crowd is late 20s to late 30s. The Square Pig could be much more fun, but it’s not the worst pub in London.

I ordered the mulled wine because they had signs everywhere telling me to try their mulled wine. When I asked for it, the woman behind the bar said they didn’t have any and wouldn’t until«uh, the middle of the week, I guess.» I then ordered a chicken sandwich with sour cream and guacamole. The latter was sickly brown. I know that avocado turns brown pretty quickly upon exposure to air, but it’s still really unappealing to look at, and you can prevent that with a little lemon or lime juice. Also, the salt and pepper were in shot glasses, so instead of shaking it onto your food you dive right in there with your fingers to grab a pinch. With your fingers. In a pub. The fingers you just used to pick your nose, scratch yourself, pop a zit, or pick at a scab. Or the fingers off of which you may have just licked some delicious brown guacamole. You’re gonna stick those in there for a pinch of salt, and then I have to stick my own nasty fingers in there for some right after you. That ain’t right.

This is a trendy wine bar but in no way intimidating or snooty which I find some wine bars to be. It has a friendly, relaxed atmosphere, although it does get very noisy but this just proves it’s popularity. Although busy, surprisingly I still managed to park my bottom on a comfy, leather sofa. It’s a fairly large venue but also has an intimate edge. I only stopped for a drink but watching other people tucking into the food gives me an excuse to go back and sample their culinary delights.

The Square Pig bills itself as a s’wine bar; shazam! However, it has the look of a generic upmarket bar. The place is set across one open plan room which has fairly smart modern décor with seated tables and some sofas. The bar has large glass windows on two sides, beyond which on one side there is a covered seating area. The bar is fully stocked and as you would expect there are a selection of wines. I have come here a few times as my sister works in the area. Indeed, there is a big after work crowd. It is fine as a place for a quick drink in the afternoon and early evening. The square pig is not an incredible place but is nice for a couple of drinks.

This place is fine, slightly generic and nothing which makes your heart jump a beat, but it is generally quite quiet and a place you can have an office lunch, or a quiet glass of wine without being disturbed. Is has nice wooden floor boards, long wooden tables and some more comfy seating areas like sofas and big armchairs. It is within two minutes walking distance of Central Saint Martins Art College, so it acts as a great place to take the folks for lunch if they are coming to visit you.

Don’t really like this one. Went here for a birthday party, god knows why he chose it. It’s got one of those ultra generic vibe’s that’s just gagging for someone, somewhere to throw up so that there is the slightest evidence that at some point fun was had. They try and claim to be both a wine bar and a pub which is pretty difficult even for the most multitasking of multipurpose venues. Honestly it’s neither really, yeah, they serve beer and wine but drinking neither feels totally right in this place. They also have a big screen telly and serve food if you’re interested in prolonging your experience further than the time it takes you to down your drink. One plus, there’s a big terrace area with lots of tables that looks out over onto a bit of grass. Better to be outside than inside somewhere like this.

This is one of my favourite places for a work pub lunch. True, the service is nothing special and it’s a run-of-the-mill pub decoration wise. But the food is always good, with the hamburgers a constant and ever-popular with my colleagues. I am yet to be disappointed by their selection of daily specials, which are always varied and interesting and well-priced. The larger tables are roughly-hewn with benches and when you go in a group make for a nicer atmosphere. It also has an outside area for the smokers around.

Good for a lunch time meal with your office friends but in the evening it gets too full which is surprising considering the lack of atmosphere the place has. Cant recommend highly enough for lunches though

This is a regular haunt of those who work locally in Holborn, offering far better service and food than in other local bars or pubs. Recently revamped with a much darker interior, it still is a great place to either catch up over lunch, meet up for a bottle of wine or a few beers after work or even to hire the downstairs ‘Swine Bar’ for a private function. Even if you turn up with a large group unannounced the Manager is always helpful and will do everything he can to make space for you … even if means gently removing two people who are hogging a seating area designed for 8! The food — although not bargain-bucket cheap — is of consistent good quality and they have plenty of daily specials to choose from. In my opinion, the burgers are one of their redeeming features and they are served on cute wooden slabs which makes you think«aaahhh, PROPER food!» A broad selection of wines are available from across the world — as you might expect from a City wine-bar — and most are also available«by the glass». They also sell Bulmers! And plenty of other beers and lagers — some on the pumps, but for a wider selection check out their chiller cabinets. Glasses and cutlery are always spotless here too(these little things make us happy). The bar staff are never in any great rush but we have always found them to be helpful and friendly, even during the 6pm mêlée!
