The burger is massive and awesome! I went there for dinner with my boyfriend to celebrate his birthday. We got a beer each, and decided to share the cold meats platter to start with. While I could not tell what each thing was they were very yummy. We then decided to get a stater and a main each and skip dessert. I got the squid to start with which was very tasty and the burger for my main. It was also delicious but huge! The patty was twice the size of what you normally get and it would have been impossible to eat without knife and fork. I have to admit it was very hard trying to finish it but it was so good I really did not want to stop eating it either. My boyfriend’s fish pie was also quite nice but I think my burger was better. While I would have liked to stay there later and drink it got empty relatively early so we had to go. Definitely a good place to visit and it’s on the tastecard too so you can get 50% off the food(which is probably why we ended up ordering quite a bit). The staff is quite casual and friendly as well which is a bonus. I count it as a very good find indeed.

Been here with my wife and friend. Bbq ribs, that I’ve just had are amazing, accompanied by summer pale ale — three cheers. We are completely happy, finding this local gem.

Great pub with an outdoors area. Nice to be ticked off a main road so great on a summers evening. Pretty pricey £19 for two G&Ts and some sweet potato chips!

We went there with friends for lunch with friends and it has a nice buzz and atmosphere for a saturday lunchtime. I asked them to recommend the best dish on the menu and was told they’re famous for their burgers, I decided to go with the recommendation. I have to say, I was very disappointed as the rest of the tables food was much better than the burger. Overall everyone said the meal was OK. Would I go their again, probably yes. I feel that it needs a second chance and I would like to check the refurb’d beer garden when we get some sun.

great local spot for all clapham heads. i was impressed with the burger, despite messing up the order slightly, a new one came out very quickly. juicy, cooked well and decent bun. fries/wedges were a little wanting however. wine list was fairly average, they did have an OK pinot for £25 and a superb reserve rioja, however that was £36. rest of our table were very happy, a fillet steak, ordered rare, came out mooing and the fish and chips looked great. nothing special to talk about internally but its a nice little location off the main drag. part of a chain of 4⁄5 spots in SW4 I believe. i probably wouldn’t go back out of choice but wouldn’t hesitate to pop in if i was local again.

I’ve tried this place three times now trying to work out what I think of it and I’ve decided it’s really not all it’s cracked up to be as a restaurant. For drinks, fine — its got a nice sturdy contemporary feel to it though definitely more pretence than content. The menu sounds nice and food generally is well presented but the actual quality leaves a bit to be desired(especially for the price). For example, last time I had the sea bream and there was a bit of overkill on the oil that it was pan fried in. Left it tasting very greasy. The chicken liver paté starter actually comes in the livers and isn’t creamy like I’ve had it in other places. So, I personally always leave feeling fairly disappointed and wouldn’t be in a hurry to go back again. Too many other nice places to try in London.

I often went past this pub and thought ‘it looks alright’. Then one night the husband and I wanted a quick bite in Strada. As always at 830 Strada was heaving and we were hungry. So we decided to walk to the Stonhouse. When we checked out the menu and saw Chateaubriand we thought, ‘naaaaah, at the back of Clapham? We’ve got to eat it to believe it…’ Lo and behold, it was good. Juicy steak, delish bernaise. Unfortunately, at the same time we witnessed them completely cock up an order for two guys on the table next to us. It resulted in one guiltily eating his meal whilst the other looked on in sorrow/anger, after being put off his meal by their incompetence. Also been here for an all day sesh for a friends birthday which was also a pleasant experience. A good food and drink establishment

I’ve only been here once, but would probably go back if I were in the area. Really enjoyed my pie and mash — delicate crust, yummy sauce and well-cooked chicken. The portions were quite big, so you felt like you got your money’s worth. That being said, it is a little pricey and I definitely consider it upscale hearty food. I only give it three stars for two reasons — the atmosphere is a little too uptight for me. I wish it were a little bit more warm and casual. Second reason — the sticky toffee pudding. My teeth are still aching from it. Way too sweet for my, and my dining partner’s tastes.

After failing abysmally to get a table at the Calf for sunday lunch, we wandered here, as it was 1) nearby and 2) recommended by friends and therefore 3) on our ‘to visit’ list. Truth be told, by the time we got a table — a ’25 minute wait ‘was conserabl;y longer than that — we could have walked back to the Calf and eaten our fill. But no matter, we had a wonderful meal that was worth the wait. The service was a bit patchy admittedly — 2 menus for 3 people, a long time to take our order, a slightly confuysing tab system, and the aforementioned wait stretching our patience a little. Hence the one star off, but otherwise it was fantastic. The food is superb; hearty pub grub but a little more interesting than even your usual gastro stuff, and although you can’t expect a ‘cheap’ meal, the prices rival some other gastros whose menu isn’t nearly as good. I had a huge lamb shank with pearl barley which, for a rainy freezing day, warmed me up inside. The boy took on an entire rack of ribs, and lost, but was happy in the process. You can order a Yorkshire pudding as a side dish — genius. The atmosphere on a packed Sunday, with the Snday papers laid out, a few people at the bar and sofas filled, was nice, and exactly what we were looking for. I’d definitely like to come of an evening.

Awesome food… AWFUL service. I hate when I have to give a restaurant with great food a low rating due to service, but Stonhouse unfortunately deserved it. I had a reservation and yet it took 10 minutes to be sat, even though our table was clearly open. Once we were sat, it took 15 minutes before a waiter even looked at us, despite the fact that our table was in the middle of the room. After ordering, drinks took another 20 minutes to arrive, with the food shortly thereafter. Luckily the food did not disappoint. –Foie gras terrine: not the best I’ve had but nice with the fig compote. Brioche was a bit burnt –Scallops with black linguine: Decadent. Definitely order the small portion. I was the perfect-full after. –Sundried tomato gnocchi: Really rich and delicious –Crab linguini: Tasty and with a fantastic spicy kick! Also only need small portion –Hamburger: Average but the chips were good We were pleasantly full, and once the bill came after asking for it twice, tip was rudely included in the total, which we did no appreciate considering the lack of service. Might go back for a drink and snack as the setting is nice, but don’t think I’ll step foot in the dining room again… unless I see one server manage to at least flash a smile next time.

Good spot. Attractive design — very pleasant and classy. Food is good — although overpriced. Strongly recommended for the next time you are in that part of the area. They have finally made me a consistent patron and also a dedicated admirer. Keep up the excellent work.

I don’t know what to make of this place to be honest. If I want a relaxed drink, you’ll probably find me in the other pub on this road. If I want somewhere casual to take the parents when they do get round to visisting, I’d probably take them here for some avo grub. If I want somewhere to drink before hitting Clapham proper or somewhere in town, again, I wouldn’t choose here. If I want somewhere that only Clapham locals tend to know and is a bit quieter, yeah, this would do nicely. But again, there are better options within 2 streets. I’d only really go for the food or the impressive sun garden in the summer. They’ve also got big tables which would serve groups well.

Excellent steaks(try the chateaubriand for two!), plus plenty of other tasty stuff on the menu, with a revolving specials card that changes for the day of the week. This place is a good standby for me when I fancy some good honest food in a nice relaxed setting. It gets pretty busy sometimes, so worthwhile booking ahead, but if you’re happy to wait you can grab a spot at one of the tables in front of the bar. There are some really nice cosy booth-like tables around the back that are worth asking for when you book though!

I am possibly a little biased about the Stonhouse as my friend used to be a manager here and so we often used to stop but for a drink and meal whilst she was working(no discount allowed unfortunately!). The place is located a little out of the hub of Clapham and does have a lovely atmosphere. The element which gives it the X Factor however is definitely the grub. The steaks are every man’s(and every steak loving girl’s) heaven — especially the Chateaubriand for two. They also serve a grand Sunday dinner with all the trimmings plus plenty of other tasty bits and pieces on the menu, with specials that change on a regular basis. This place is a good option when you are looking to go and eat a nice but not too expensive meal in a nice relaxed setting. It does gets busy however so it is definitely worthwhile to book ahead, but if you are happy to wait and soak up the atmosphere, you can grab a spot at one of the tables in front of the bar and enjoy a nice glass of wine!

This is one of those pubs that you always hear about but never go to. Well, not any more. I found it. Hidden away down a side road off Clapham High Street, the Stonhouse is a gem of a pub. Painted outside in a light beige colour, and with chunky wooden furniture and bright, clean, classy interiors, this pub is one for the locals. The wine list is pretty good, I had a delicious pinot grigio blush, and the food is well above average gastro fare. Also has a nice garden, though possibly to be advised against at this time of year. However, if your party includes smokers(which is becoming rarer and rarer but some folks are still hanging on in there!) then they feel loved. Which isn’t necessarily a good thing. In short, if you’re looking for a slightly quieter place for a Christmas drink around Clapham, then look no further.

Nice if overpriced pub in Clapham. Has a nice lunch menu on the weekend which goes with the nice décor. It does get busy though and last time we were there we had Roast beef with yorkshire puddings which was lukewarm by the time it got to the table. That said it was very tasty. Has a nice beer garden outside which is cozy.
