In a word the Sun Tav is a delight. Positioned at the tail end of a really frantic and busy Bethnal Green Road, the Sun is more than a welcome pit stop to duck in and escape. Upon entering the décor is east end hipster at its best. Exposed brick, old school German taps and huge glass vessels that only show off your glorious pint. The drinks come in an array, there’s about 8 – 10 taps with a selected of craft beers, and cider. I’m working my way through this currently and the cider, I believe from Hoxton, is a class find. Outside of draught the wine selection is very strong but the liquor is impressive. Must be close to 200 bottles of whiskey, gin, vodka, tequila and countless other line the length of the serving area. With this you’d expect a strong cocktail menu and you wouldn’t be mistaken. The cocktails are beautifully constructed and absolutely delicious. All the classics you’d want and some in house specials that you need to go down for. The bar also stocks some impressive snacks, good olives, nuts, pretzels and the best wasabi peas in the area. Perfect to fit between the 3rd and 4th pint. Recently this place has also added a small fridge and bottle take away. So passing custom can pop in and grab a few craft bottle to enjoy at home. Cold too. Great addition. I also think a massive advantage of this place is that they only serve local beers and cider. I believe it’s within 10 or 15 miles and they’ll never go for the huge brands. Very decent. Overall a perfect place to relax, feel cosy and enjoy some of the best of the local area. Solid.

Like beer? Like Whisky? Like music(generally on records most probably recorded in 70’s)? Then you have found your place. Recently freshened up inside; the place has lots of moody lighting, leather, wood, vintage-y bits and pieces and most importantly a record player. Not a huge venue but there are a three or four places for bigger groups and lots of bar space and 2⁄3 person tables. Beer list is seriously awesome and same goes for the whisk(e)ys. And they make a mean cocktail. There is regular DJ nights and when there is no DJ’s playing there is great music anyway. Nuts, olives etc on offer.
