Unicorns?! Always! Free metal gig? Don’t mind if I do! The venue itself is a nice medium size pub with a great area for small gigs. It’s actually really nice inside too(which is a stereotyped surprise considering most music venues) and the carpet seems actual clean and the toilets are fancy and new!(No really I was really surprised/impressed) The band we were there to see were Strauss and it was a really cool intimate gig with awesome music.

Cheap drinks, great location and FREE gigs most nights of the week. What’s not to love? A few things, actually. The men’s toilets are frequently out of service, meaning the ladies’ are turned into unisex. I have no problem with this, as I’m a free thinking individual, however, with only three toilets in the ladies and only one out of those three having a working lock things can get pretty messy and crowded, especially on busier nights. That being said, where else in London can you get a pint of beer for less than £3.50? Or see some of the best and up and coming metal bands for completely free of charge? This venue and the promoter are a credit to the scene and I’ll gladly hover to pee, while holding the door closed with my foot, to listen to good music and drink cheap beer.

The pub interior has been rebuilt to suit modern tastes quite differently from the traditional Victorian exterior with plenty of space and quick service during the daylight hours — however, in the evenings this place becomes the haunt of alternative and progressive metal heads and goths as it’s a free music venue for unsigned bands… very occasionally a named band will perform free, but this is rare. So, 3 stars during the day, but 5 stars in the evenings(if youre here for the gig)

The Unicorn is a pub placed in the corner of Camden Road and Brecknock Road. They have many gigs every week, mostly metal and hard rock groups that you can check in their web page. The staff is very friendly and the range of beers is wider than usual. There are a few tables for outside seating and inside there are sofas, tables, pool tables, and arcade-games machines. When there is no live music they have one of the best selections I’ve ever heard in a pub in London, with music of many different styles(no just metal) and classic 90s songs. And of course, there is this old friendly fella that helps the staff with the empty glasses and says hi to everybody; such a nice man!
