I never went out in this area on a Friday and was amazed that nearly everything was cramped, including this place. Actually … I was not amazed. I was hugely irritated by it. I just wanted to go for a meal and here were all these people taking up space that my friends and I could use. Never mind … we squeezed ourselves into a corner and enjoyed the food and the ambiance.

It’s been a while since we’ve eaten here. Perhaps it’s mega busy on Sunday, but the place is really short staffed, took ages to get served and ages to pay. The roast beef was delicious but the lamb was mediocre… kind of disappointing. The place was filled with kids inside… it’s not really a place to relax if you fancy a quiet catch up with friends.

The food is good, the coffee is decent and the drinks better. Nice place from brunch to pub but often crowded, especially on Sunday mornings and it gets noisy. Really nice interior though, like a cozy living room.

Amazing food! Always plenty of vegetarian options which is great. A far less popular pub in Peckham than it’s overcrowded(and over-rated) neighbour the Montpellier. I actually prefer going for a drink here over anywhere else in Peckham. It’s less pretentious and although it’s sadly a chain and not an independant, I feel it’s a more comfortable hangout. Especially now I’ve tried the food I will be back more often!

The food in the place is excellent, we started with the chorizo scotched egg, cod with crushed potatoes, leeks and kale and finished with the most delicious chocolate fondant pudding with salted caramel sauce. The only thing stopping me giving it a 5 star rating was unfortunately the service. After ordering drinks I was asked to sit down and someone would come to take our order, 20mins and no one did– went to get another round and to order food at the bar, again told to sit down and someone would be with us… Still no one came with another 10mins gone so I went up to the bar the third time and just ordered, but felt like if ur trying to do table service, the the staff need to be fully switched on and aware of this. Ironically after ordering our food we finally see a member of staff going round asking if ppl would like to order food this is after 30−45mins of us being there. I really do like this pub, the décor, the atmosphere– very mix crowd but more 25 – 35 age range. Nice feel and is welcoming. Hopefully the service is better when I next visit, but the food really is spot on and made up for it.

Lovely little neighbourhood in Peckham. You don’t feel like you’re in London — broad pavements and sizeable streets and expensive houses abound. Then you pop into this pub and it’s just nice. Nice food and nice ales and a big outdoor bit that’s open ’til about 12 on the weekends — the pub is open’til 2. There isn’t much I could imagine to complain about this pub, except that it’s far-ish from public transport andwhatnot, but if you’re in Peckham, get along.

I’ve yet to try the food here, so the rating could go up. This is a nice local pub. I went on one week day evening and it is reasonably busy. The staff were polite and overall was a pretty ok place.

Maybe the Victoria Inn has improved recently because we didn’t have any of the problems with shabby service mentioned in the previous reviews! The staff were all attentive, smiley and our food didn’t take too long. — My G&T was massive! This meant I was a little tipsy before our starters arrived… Oops — They have a good selection of beers and ales, so my beer-drinking dining companions were all happy — The roast dinners on Sundays are IMMENSE! I didn’t think I’d be able to finish my massive plate with slow-roasted pork belly, perfect crackling, yummy apple sauce and lovely roasties. Somehow I managed to finish almost all of it… although it was difficult to walk afterwards. — This place is dog friendly, so it was nice to see a few cute pooches sitting by their owners — The pub itself is huuuge. Lots of space if you wanted to come here with a larger group… although you might want to book(we did) and it was pretty full. If I didn’t live so far away, I’d definitely want to come back here all the time.

There were highs and lows on my visit to The Victoria Inn. Having recently moved to Peckham, I was worried that I would end up at McDonald’s on Kent Road, or the numerous chicken shops, on a regular basis. I found Victoria Inn while out wandering one day, and it has the elements of a gastropub that I really like: warm and inviting, great décor, excellent food at decent prices. I could see myself spending a significant amount of time here. But there was one thing that threatened to ruin the whole experience… SERVICE! The guy who served me was dressed more like a bar back than a waiter. He slouched on my table to take my order and loped through the pub like he didn’t have anywhere better to be. I was told the Ox cheek Wellington I had ordered would take 15 – 20 minutes to cook. I told him that was fine, and could I please have some chips to start while I waited. Twenty minutes on… no chips. Then my meals arrives… with chips, in addition to everything else. During that time, no one else came to check on me. Eventually, three different people came by and I flagged one of them down. I want to like you, Victoria Inn. I really do. You’re in a great location, with the opportunity not to just to be the best in Peckham, but one of the best in Southeast. I want to give you four stars… maybe even 4.5…but I can’t do it until the service gets sorted.

It is a good boozer but if it is trying to be a gastropub then it needs to pull it’s finger out as the service is very slow

Nice, okayish pub. The staff was friendly and the pub itself was cosy. I passed this place every day for 2 months and decided to go there on my last Friday night in London.

A lovely large attractive pub, serving the interesting sounding local ale Bonobo beer, which I had encountered once before. over a year back( ) Unfortunately on this occasion the beer tasted bad. Not undrinkable, but unsavourable(if such a word exists!) Even by the local Nappy Valley standards this pub was absolutely swarming with infants on a Saturday afternoon, so was a really terrible location for a relaxing drink.

Discovered this little pub one afternoon. The food was amazing, I tucked into a shepards«lamb» pie… It was delicious! Food prices are around the £10 range. The staff were attentive and friendly! There is also outside seating and they welcome dogs too! Will definitely return!

Great pub with good range of beer and really good food. I had a wonderful hot dog and my husband had an amazing looking burger. The pub was really clean, the staff really friendly and helpful, and to top it all a really cute little pub dog who comes round for hugs. Always nice to find a pub that does a good wheat beer, Erdinger, without charging over inflated prices for it. Husband really liked the beers brewed at it’s sister pub The Florence. Oh and if you drink/eat too much they have rooms to rent upstairs too!

A fantastic pub set among the residential streets of Peckham. The roast dinners are legendary, and although they’re quite pricey at £13 a pop, when they set the giant plate down in front of you — complete with a giant, bulbous Yorkshire pudding, heaps of veggies and roasters, delicious, tasty, tender meat AND your own little jug of extra gravy, you won’t be disappointed. But you WILL end up full. Very full. The décor is clean and colourful and the staff are smiley and fun. You can book tables, which is always a bonus if you don’t want to risk turning up only to find that it’s rammed(which I can imagine it sometimes would be). I only wish I had a pub like this closer to home.

I was lucky enough to be invited to the fabulous Qype food and wine orgy here last week. There was no tapping out here as I wanted all of it to the last bite. Staff was incredibly friendly, atmosphere was cozy nice pubbish, food was delicious and wine was lovely. We tried eveything but the burger, and seeing endless burgers come out of the kitchen makes me want to go back for one! Here’s the low-down: –Halloumi sticks — So YUM! with awesome cauliflower purée –Chorizo scotch egg — How can you not like these(minus vegetarians) –Flatbreads w/dips — Flatbread had rosemary & was nice but the dips weren’t great –Mushrooms on bruschetta — Nice ‘n mushroomy –Smoked mackerel salad — Quite fishy but refreshing –Chicken kievs — Amazing! The garlic sauce is heaven –Shepherds pie — Absolute best I’ve ever ever had. Want it every day –Brownies w/ice cream — Light & fluffy chocolate brownies with clotted cream ice cream — hellz yeah! –Skinny chips & potato wedges — Just right –Sauvignon blanc — From New Zealand. Can’t go wrong!

Situated in a residential area(but still, 5 minutes from the main train station) of seemingly unattractive Pekham Rye, this pub is a gem. If saying that it’s a cosy place with welcoming atmosphere and a stylish wooden bar is not convincing, the food definitely should be. I have never been a big pub food fun, but after the Wednesday feast at Victoria Inn I think I will have to change my view. As pescatarian, I can’t say much about the meaty dishes(chorizo scotch eggs, shepherd’s pies, chicken kievs), but judging by the ‘mmmms!!!’ coming from the mouths of my fellow Qypers, they were devine. What I can say, is that the vegetarian Shepperd pie with sweet potatoes peppers and lentils was delicious, so were the breaded halloumi sticks, macrel pâté, and my absolute favourite — bread with mushroom and garlic sauce. We also tried interesting selection of dips(go for the beetroot!) served with raw vegetables and flat bread. Although being already stuffed and unable to move I couldn’t resist the freshly baked brownies(still hot!) with home made ice-creams that were also amazing. Despite the fact the place was fully booked, the service was very quick and the staff was exceptionally friendly. On the top of that, if there’s an Oscar for the cleanest London pub toilet, Victoria Inn definitely deserves it.

Discovering a new place a short bus ride from home is always good news; its outstanding food makes the Victoria very good news indeed. The pub is very pleasant, with fashionably casual furnishings complemented by a fabulous, ornate bar(the clock surround and fancy mirrors are a real treat). A great selection of beers and an interesting wine list mean that this would be a good choice for a drink. However, it’s no surprise that nearly everyone there was eating. The food coming out of the kitchen all looked delicious and generously-portioned. Happily, being part of a Qype event meant I didn’t have to make difficult choices as we were brought a succession of dishes to taste. All were excellent, including home-made dips(beetroot was an unusual treat; guacamole was especially good); fat and skinny chips; garlicky mushrooms on toast; great brownies with the creamiest of ice cream. My real favourites were the celebrated halloumi sticks, chorizo scotch eggs and the best shepherd’s pie I’ve ever had(full of tasty shredded lamb rather than bland mince). It was good to discover that vegetarian options, such as veggie shepherd’s pie with sweet potato mash, were as imaginative and tasty as the meat alternatives. Another special mention should go to the toilets. They’re clean and pleasant, smell lovely, and there are plenty of them!

Update Oh I’ve now worked my way through most of the menu thanks to our Qype event here. The staff were lovely, and basically didn’t stop bringing us food. Even when we protested. Everything was tasty(I’ve even come ’round to that halloumi stuff). Favourites included chicken kiev strips, and some guacamole that I could have happily eaten all night. Amazing flatbread too. Sounds simple, but I don’t trust places that can’t get bread right. But my fifth star is for the shepherds pie. Actually the best I’ve ever ever eaten. If you’re south of the river, hop on a bus immediately. And if you’re not, come on a weekend and make a day of it. This pub is awesome. I’m still full. Update Well this bar was a bit of a shock. I’m learning about Peckham, you see. It’s at the end of the bus journey from my house, meaning that I have to cross through Greenwich to get there. That confuses me. Usually I get off in Greenwich and go out to play there. But this pub is worth staying on the bus for. The food is fab. Now, I don’t like halloumi, so that’s wasted on me(food shouldn’t squeak if it’s dead). But the chips were yum and the chorizo scotch egg was fabulous. I like that the serve wine by the carafe and we spent much longer here than we’d planned. And I’d come back. I really really like this pub, it’s in a(surprisingly) lovely area of Peckham Rye, and it’s super friendly. Well done, Peckham.
