Under the busy London Bridge street level, this re-branded pub boasts a good selection of beer, with several choices of guest ales. ‘The Sheaf’ is slightly out of the way of the line of pubs surrounding the tube station, making is slightly less crowded at peak hours. The subterranean celler has white-washed ceilings and an open-plan set-up, making the space feel bigger than it really is. It has a very casual atmosphere, finished with soft colored wooden chairs and simple stools and comfortable couches. I liked the space as it was nice not to have to stand, given the overflowing pubs running alongside the path leading to this one. It was quiet and not crowded at all which was refreshing when you expect the typical noisy rush. And I enjoyed trying several of the ales while catching up with a friend, which was more effective without the noise pollution. It doesn’t give me that warm pub feeling due to its white, bricky interior. Nor was the staff particularly friendly or helpful. However, definitely worth coming here as a Plan B in case your usual London Bridge pub is rammed. They seem to have a decent menu to try out and there were posters advertising gigs on certain nights as well.

Caution: there’s two Wheatsheaves(is that the plural for Wheatsheaf) around London Bridge. This one(On Soutwark Street) is located in a cellar and the other one(on Stoney Street right opposite Borough Market) is ground level. I’m mentioning this, because a friend told me to meet him at the Wheatsheaf near London Bridge and I ended up at this one, while he was waiting at the other one ;-) As I was early on said date, I ordered a pint of beer from the bar and slumped down in one of the sofas that were standing around. I have to say, it was a hot day and I’d rather sat outside, but I can imagine this to be a rather cozy place on a(more typical) gray London day. The cellar environment is very fitting for a pub, I thought and it reminded me of the typical Ratskeller in any given German city.(Underneath the city hall, there’s oftentimes a bar with vaulted ceilings offering traditional/regional cuisine. While the regional cuisine here seems to be limited to the burger and fish&chips, they do have a selection of various beers on tap. All in all, it’s a nice place to be… especially when you’re in a large group.

I like this place. It’s newly kitted out, and is still a tad too clean in areas, but that’ll come with time. Great beer selection, including independent London breweries(looking at you Camden), and what looks like a quirky food menu. It’s location means it’ll naturally be busy after work, but unlike other watering holes in the area, this place is still busy at the weekend. Decent outside area for the warmer months too, but it’ll be rammed I bet!(You might be better off searching out more space at The George over the road).

Went here in a party of 15 guys for a stag night, the stag in fancy dress. We were made most welcome and the ales were top notch. nice touch with the food in the garden in the form of a cut up Camper van. even suppiled blankets in the garden good atmosphere, reccomended for a Weekend drink

A decent cellar bar right near Borough Market. Fair selection of cask ales, reasonably priced. I found the service a little weak; I went around lunchtime when it wasn’t busy but the server still took way more time than I would have expected to serve a few pints. Worth a visit if you’re in near the Market. This place would fit in well with a little pub crawl around the the area.

This is a lovely, comfortable pub, with nice open areas and quiet corners with leather sofas. I popped in for dinner as it was close to my hotel. The food was great but, as noted by another reviewer, the indifference of the staff was appalling. I’ve never been in a pub with barmaids less interested in serving a pint to a customer. The pub advertises a changing menu of cask beers but when I asked for a recommendation she suggested… an on-tap Sam Adams or a bottled Scandinavian wheatbeer with a hint of lemon. Since the food was so good it’s a shame the front of the house didn’t match the ability of the back.

agree with the real ales. fairly empty on a thursday night, so quick service and tables a plus. also agree with large screen comment(darts) on massive screens throughout. kitchen closes before nine.

A rather unassuming pub located under the Hop Exchange. There’s ten hand pumps available of English microbrews but the quality is simply hit or miss, with a few missing badly. The staff had a disintertested vibe and they didn’t appear like they would be up for a chat, even when it’s a quiet day. The pub itself is quite cozy and has a cellar type feel. It’d be a nice place to drink with a group and not care too much about the beer quality.

Great little pub with brilliant atmosphere. Unassuming and laid back. There are plenty of little wooden tables tucked into corners, making it the perfect spot for a catch up with a friend or even a date! My boyfriend and I stopped in for a quiet drink together last on a Saturday evening and it was just perfect.

I approve of the real ale they serve, I really do. Just nothing else about the pub particularly appealed to me. It was packed out and was dominated by large screens, even though they had nothing of any interest to show(tennis).
