We came here for a wedding… and it was beautiful. It was a small space, basically one long hall, but there was so much that could be done with it. The wedding had tables, a dance floor, photo booth and food stations and it never really felt cramped. They also were able to hang beautiful decorations and go nuts with things on the wall. It felt simple and beautiful and magical and that’s really all you can ask for a wedding venue. If you get the chance to party here, do it.

We’re getting married here in December(prepare for another review then!) so we thought we’d head over and see what the restaurant and food was like before we start the menu tastings, flower appointments and discussions with event planners and I’m so glad we did. Tudor Barn is a beautiful 16th century barn nestled in the heart of Eltham, literally two minutes from the A2 and the station and I have NO idea why we didn’t know it existed before we started looking for wedding venues. Our meals out would have been much better if we had. We arrived to a busy restaurant and were shown to our seats and asked if we wanted to order any drinks. There was something on the menu called ‘Posh Pop’ and intrigued we ordered it. My GOD it’s amazing. Rhubarb and cream soda and ginger and chilli mildly carbonated drink that tastes like heaven. It was definitely a good start. Within 5 minutes, the waitress was back and taking our starter orders. They do things like scallops, prawns, fish soup and a soup of the day which is always vegetarian so I can see them being the kind of place that pleases everyone. I went for the soup of the day, which was tomato, and Matt R plumped for scallops. When the starters arrived, we could see a bit of discrepancy with portion size… Matt’s scallops were beautifully presented… but there were three of them on the plate, whereas my tomato soup filled a generous bowl and I had two baguette slice-sized garlic croutons on the side. What ended up happening was that Matt finished in 30 seconds and then had to sit and watch me slowly make my way through the pint of soup I had. A bit weird and part of the reason I can’t give it the full 5 stars. For mains, we both had the venison burger because I’ve never had it before and the hand-cut chips and brioche bun sounded amazing. And this didn’t disappoint. The portion size was HUGE. It was presented on a chopping board, with the chips in a little faux chip deep fat fryer basket, the knife was impaled in the burger and it also came with a salad in a bowl the same size as the starter I’d just had. Wow that was a lot of food. Now, Matt and I have pretty hefty appetites but even we couldn’t get through all this food. We just about managed to make it through the burger, half the salad and a few chips but we left most of the accompaniments. If you’re eating here, maybe skip the starter. The main will make up for it. After that small mountain of food, I thought we couldn’t eat any more. The desserts didn’t sound up our street and we thought we’d skip them. There was the standard strawberry, vanilla and chocolate ice cream, conjuring up images of that cheap tub with the stripes of flavours, and they also had a dark chocolate mousse(I don’t like dark chocolate), a warm pear tart with Drambuie custard and a hazelnut roly poly. But when we saw the ice cream come out to another table, we changed our minds. Because we realised that when they say strawberry, chocolate and vanilla, what they mean is strawberry with real pieces of fruit, chocolate with chocolate shavings and vanilla using vanilla seeds. PROPER ice cream. So we bit the bullet and ordered. And we’re so glad we did. It. Was. DELICIOUS. The ice cream was perfect, just the right amount of extra and a healthy portion size that ended the meal. And the chocolate mousse was chilled with almost a dry ice consistency to it and a sable biscuit underneath, stuck to the plate with a generous helping of chocolate sauce. Absolutely stunning. Being able to dine at Tudor Barn before our wedding, with the sounds of someone else’s going on upstairs was a pretty special experience for us. Not only for the anticipation of things to come and the beautiful surroundings, but the excellent and generous food we were served with. If you’re in the area, try it. It’s worth it!

This place does not feel like Eltham, it feels like it’s in civilisation. It’s a real restaurant contrary to what some other reviews are saying. We went here for dinner, a group of four. The menu was full of tempting dishes, there was a huge slab of cow on the specials which we decided to share between the four of us. As it was so huge we skipped starters. This was a bad move because the cow took well over an hour to show up. We asked after it a few times, and were told it was coming in a way that gave us no confidence whatsoever. The staff were friendly but slightly devious in this way. When the food arrived, it was worth the wait. Really worth the wait. Beautifully cooked. Desserts were similarly excellent, as was the wine. I would give this place top marks if it were not for the waiting.

I was pretty pleased to stumble upon this tea room and Tudor Barn. It’s pretty picturesque and you can sit outside looking out into the lovely gardens. Shame the food doesn’t live up to the view. 4 stars in scenery but 2 stars food and service.

nice place. relaxed, good mood and food good, with chilled ambience. setting is also lovely. if there was one thing they could enhance just a bit to make it 5 star. get the staff to relax, smile and engage the customers more.

used to be a pub? not to my knowledge .used it regularly 20+ years ago for sunday roast which was all round superb, quality food, service, and atmosphere .its opposite the progress estate which has some sort of quaker connections forbidding pubs in that area, the nearest being the welcome inn to the north(towards woolwich) and the greyhound, south to eltham high street. its possible of course that over time this may have changed though i thought it had something to do with a royal charter and king johns‘palace just up the road.

I visited the Tudor Barn with some friends yesterday for lunch and we were all really impressed. The food was really good, the service was friendly and the décor was tasteful and appealing. The place is totally transformed from the shabby pub it was a few years ago. I would certainly go there again.

I really looked forward to the re-opening of the Tudor Barn. We went there today and it was quite disappointing. There are not so many nice places where you can go and have great food in a nice location in Eltham. So I thought this place will make a difference for Eltham. I was wrong. It’s such a nice location in a park with a nice outside area, so I am dissapointed that it isn’t used better. I was quite shocked when we saw the food menue: 5 sorts of baguettes with chips and salad for 5 Pounds. That’s all. We went there 2 days after they re-opened. Wow, the service has room for improvement, to say it nicely. The barrista had to asked me 4 times what I want to order. They told us that the baguettes are sold out but that they offer sandwiches instead. Sandwiches for 5 Pounds! We got a refund at the end but anyway if you just offer baguettes you should make sure that you have enough of them. We had to wait for ages till we got everything and the quality was poor. I am not a salty eater, but even I had to add salt to my food. There were several guests in a wheelchair when we were there. The manager told one of the guests that they don’t have disabled facilities. How can this be when they refurbished everything? Because it was two days after they opened I gave them 2 stars, otherwise it would be one. I will try them in another six month. I hope their service has improved by then. Otherwise, I am sure, there will be a new owner again.

The tudor barn used to be a pub. It has now been changed into a tea room– sounds a bit poncy! from my point of view this was a bad idea– the pub was ok, but turning it into a tea room was a bad idea. ok, its still a nice place to visit, but thats about it. i won’t go there, not now they have changed from the old pub
