Tucked away in a railway arch near Southwark Bridge is Uptown Oil, on paper what they offer sounds too good to be true, an environmentally responsible, recycled fuel, that is cheaper than it’s fossil fuel equivalent. With feeling curious, I set off to investigate. I think if you were trying to read a map and navigate it could be tricky to find, but my sat-nav took me straight there, the place itself is also where they convert the cooking oil to fuel so it looked pleasing like the kind of the place where men with spanners do proper head-scratching engineering, out front is a pump where a man fills your vehicle and takes your credit card and a slight smell of cooking oil pervades the air. The fuel itself they assured me is European standard and is fine to use even in a modern common rail diesel car like mine, and as advertised, was cheaper than regular diesel and you could see the place was a fit with local cabbies. all in all I went away happy and they assure me that they plan in the future to have a garage forecourt somewhere that’ll make it easier(and hopefully the opening hours longer)
