To be fair, I’ve only been in for the gelato, but I love the atmosphere of Veneticus. It feels so Italian, like you’re in the heart of Rome on a warm day, tucking into a little treat before heading back out to sight-see even more. That’s a good experience, when in reality you’re just on Clerkenwell Road and the busses keep trundling pass in a flash of red. I liked how friendly the servers were, too… engaging us in conversation and looking after our table even though they don’t really do a table service. All around, it was a nice little deli that I’d love to come back and try a sandwich at, especially given how much the other reviewers rave about it. See you there soon!

Really, really delicious gelato — though don’t believe the Unilocal app when it says you can get a free coffee, as the guys behind the bar knew nothing of it. Good wifi, and did I mention the fantastically flavoursome gelato?!

I got lost round here one day and everything was going so horribly and then I saw the gelato and ate the gelato and it turned into a really great day.

Like the fact that I had a selection of salamis to choose from for my panini, the service was nothing short of charming(my friend was having a blast flirting with the guys) and it has ample seating for lunch. A bit pricey, and an extra £1 for anything you are going to eat in. The homemade lasagna was quite the hit with my colleagues – big big big portion!

If you love fresh Italian meats, cheeses and breads then Veneticus is a definite stop for you in Farringdon. Mamma Mia! My Parma ham, dolcelatte and sundried tomato on olive focaccia was lip-smackingly, calorifically delicious. They generously layer on the meats and cheeses before giving you the option of having it grilled. A-mezze-ing. While waiting for my focaccia the men at the deli gave me samples of other cheeses that they recommended for my next visit(and oh yes, there shall be a ‘next visit’!) Across from the deli counter there is a counter for coffees and other soft drinks, a selection of Italian snacks and some tables and chairs for dining in. The portions are huge, the ingredients fresh and the staff friendly and enthusiastic. Go and visit Veneticus for a big taste of Italy without leaving the comfort of your capital.

I discovered this lovely Italian place in London through a lunch order made by a colleague, so I couldn’t say what the place looks like, but what I can say is… oooh, did I love that sandwich! If I remember well, I had some kind of foccaccia with olive, prosciutto and olive oil, and it really did taste like Italy. By that, yes, I mean that it was very very oily, but it was also incredibly tasty and makes me wish I could have such nice sandwiches here close to home. So Veneticus, you’ll hear from me again, I swear! And this time, I intend to visit your shop and see all the little marvels I’m sure you’re hosting!

Well I never, Italy has arrived in Farringdon. This large deli is a haven during the week when you want some tasty fresh sandwiches and salads that are a little different from the norm. Expect high quality meats, cheeses and breads all served up in generous portions for a reasonable price. This seems to be a go-to area for meetings too which a cluster of bistro style tables in the light and airy space. They serve up home made cakes and ice creams to take away and the really helpful Italian staff will even recommend their favourites. There is a bottle shop and a huge selection of speciality foods all waiting to be wrapped up and taken home. It’s a charming deli, really charming.

Having just returned from Italy on holiday, I can wholeheartedly report that this is about as close to the real deal as you’re likely to find in this part of London. From proper Italian employees to delightfully simple Italian made-to-order sandwiches, from a dizzying array of Italian make-at-home foodstuffs(olive oils, pastas, etc.) to a generous assortment of gelato, Veneticus offers a taste of the Mediterranean without leaving EC1. While perusing the sandwich offerings, I was graciously offered a sample of smoked cheese(not dissimilar to gouda, though I couldn’t catch the name through the thick Italian accent) and a slice of salami and was sold. Piled high atop of some freshly toasted olive focaccia, I though they’d never stop loading up the ingredients — all at a fixed price, seemingly regardless of what they slathered on! If you’re into arancini, don’t miss out on the absurdly enormous risotto balls here, either. One’s fit to split among a table of three if you’re also having sandwiches. Who doesn’t love spherical rice stuffed with meat and cheese? Needless to say, I’m grateful this is a little walk from the office. After a meal here, I’ll need every step in between to work off some of the calories I’ve taken in here…
