I have often used this particular branch of WH Smith and I agree that it is very small and can be a bit of a crush at times. The queue often goes right round the shop but it does move quickly. A difficult place to browse though because of the crowds — I wanted to look through the various maps of London before I made a choice but kept getting in everyone’s way! In the end I just grabbed the cheapest one and some bottled water and joined the queue.

For such a major station, this is quite a small W H Smiths: in less than the ground floor area of the Victoria version, they manage to cram in a book department, newspaper and magazine selection, a very small selection of stationery, confectionery, tobacco and a sandwich and drinks chiller cabinet. As a result, at peak times it can be pretty crowded and the atmosphere is not helped by having security guards prominently positioned — a sign of the area, I guess. Still, it’s useful for grabbing something to read and possibly eat/drink before jumping on the train, though the sandwiches are a little pricey. There are plenty of tills and a single queuing system, and they seem to serve customers pretty quickly, even when busy.
