I’ve passed this place dozens of times since it opened last year, since it is basically attached to Clapham Common station and you can’t miss it on your way out. As the story goes, it used to be the station’s toilets, but these days WC stands for Wine & Charcuterie, two of my favourite things. In the summer, there are always a lot of people sitting outside, but when my friend and I went last Friday night, we found that that there is a great inside area as well, where you can sit either at a booth, a table, or at the bar. We didn’t have reservations and it was kind of an impromptu decision since she lives in the area. We ordered a cheese board and some of the smoked salmon pâté, which were both great. The charcuterie selection unfortunately was limited to salami /sausages hanging on the walls, and they didn’t have anything like prosciutto or parma ham so we decided against it. We thought it would be the perfect place for a date because the atmosphere is rather dim and candle lit, and the tables we were at were cozy with both diners sitting against the wall and looking out at the rest of the bar(great for snuggling and people watching!). Everything was reasonably priced, and it was busy, but not packed, no queues, and not stressful! If I lived in Clapham, I would probably be here on a weekly basis.

Selfishly I wanted this place to remain my secret, so was not going to review it, however I think the cat is out of the bag already! :-) I love this place… it’s an underground wine bar… literally it’s the old public toilets under Clapham Common tube station! Very cool. I suggested this as a venue for a date with a guy who works in restaurants and it was a success, as it was new to him and he loves meat and wine… result! [Alas it didn’t work out for us in the long term, however we had a fantastic night] We enjoyed a bottle of red wine, with the Black pudding Scotch egg & pickles, and a Charcuterie board… all of which was great. We topped the evening off with a couple of Espresso Martinis! I have been back a couple of times with some girlie pals, and I will continue hanging out here… just love it!

I first read about WC in Timeout magazine. We decided to try it last night for a few drinks before dinner. I was a little hesitant about the idea of anyone serving drinks and food in an old public loo. However, once inside I was was pleasantly surprised by the décor and atmosphere. All the staff were friendly and we were seated without having to wait. We went for some cocktails, I had the Hendrick’s & Elderflower Martini and my partner went for the Cuban Cigar. They were a bit small compared to the price, but I guess you pay for the novelty. I enjoyed my cocktail, my partner found his to be a bit weak. We decided to try two different ones and stayed for another round. I would definitely go back, we will probably go for the wine next time as that is their speciality.

The food and atmosphere here are amazing. We had to wait 40 mins for a table but popped over the road for drinks and they called us when our table was ready. We had sausage rolls and cheese fondue to start. The BEST sausage rolls I’ve ever eaten. I don’t know what they put in there but wow. The charcuterie board was amazing and so reasonable. The meat was wafer thin and melted in the mouth. The selection of cheese was divine. I loved the food and the quirky setting!

I almost DON’T want to review this place so that it’s mine ALL mine — it’s just too awesome! First of all, it’s a converted public toilet — how cool is that?! Secondly, the staff are amazeballs — So fun and welcoming and boy do they know their cocktails(don’t ask for a night-cap people, it may just kill your liver). Thirdly — Their cheese and charcuterie boards are to die for, simply scrummy. Fourthly — There are actual seats available and it’s not so rammed that you don’t ever stand a chance of getting in. Fifthly — JUSTGOALREADY! PS great date location, intimate but with rustic quirks like water dripping from the pavement above!

I came to London to visit some university friends, and they booked WC for the first night I was there. Needless to say, I was not disappointed! The novelty value of the place alone warrants a visit — who can say they’ve had dinner in one of London’s public toilets? It’s a dark and small place, which could be disconcerting for some, but it’s certainly cozy and comfortable if you can get a booth. We were a group of seven, which meant that six of us were in the actual booth and one was at the head of the table in a normal chair. One of the interesting things about the booth was that you could actually close it off with a curtain(though, of course, our group couldn’t do that with the seventh body). The food, while it seems pricey when you look at the menu(~£15 per«entrée» plate), is designed for sharing. Our group got three appetizers and at least five plates(served on wooden slabs — another fabulous novelty), along with 3 or 4 bottles of wine, and it ended up equating to about £26 per person, which awesome for a dinner in London. All told, I can’t wait to go back!

straight off i’ll give kudos to the guys that set this place up. turning a derelict public toilet into a cool little wine bar. the interior is excellent, they’ve kept all the original features and added some quirky extras. very impressive. sadly i think they need a bit more time to settle into their flow. it’s all a bit mixed. the crowd, the wine, the food, even the music?!? the wine list was expensive, the shiraz at £42 a bottle wasn’t good at all. the food boards, cheese, meat, combo or ploughmans at £15 a pop are overpriced for what you get. the quality was high, especially the cheese but there wasn’t enough to justify that price. i saw a review in the standard that said it’s a rival to Sager & Wilde in Hoxton, it’s not, but could and should be! despite a few disappointments WC is a decent spot that I’m sure will get better. the staff are very pleasant. shout out to chloe the cheesemaster. I’d def pop in for a drink if I was local again. ps. i believe you have to be a table of 6 to get a booth, there is no way 6 non tiny people could fit. the 4 of us fit just right.
