Used to be my local and I love it so much that even after we moved to another borough I wouldn’t let the fact that they didn’t deliver to our area keep me from enjoying their food — we drive there every now and again to get a takeaway. There is now another restaurant also called Wood Oven on George lane, closer to the station; same owners maybe, but a different, more upmarket looking vibe. The ambient is informal and noisy in a good, cheerful way; perhaps not the place for an intimate meal, but if you want to enjoy a lively evening you’re in the right place. They don’t take reservations, but the restaurant have enough seats so the turnover is quick and you won’t have to wait ages. In the winter, avoid if possible the tables next to the door to the loos(by the way loos are located outside, at the back) to avoid drafts from people who were born in a barn and leave it wide open. All the ingredients are fresh, and the meat is cooked to perfection, never dry or overcooked. I often get falafel for starters, nice texture and really tasty. I love the lamb shish; I even managed to convert my mother who said she didn’t like lamb. Do try the Wood Oven Special if you aren’t sure of what to order; it combines lamb and chicken shish, kofta, lamb chops/ribs, chicken wings, rice and salad and serves(well) two people. The rice deserves special mention, SO fluffy and flavoursome. Staff is lovely, smiley and accommodating. Once we were politely asked if we could change tables in order to allow a family to combine two tables and sit together; we happily obliged and got a free extra dish as a treat. Sweet.

Lovely kebabs! The lamb chops are my favourite dish and the salad is very fresh! The pitta bread comes out warm which I love! This place has great food, can’t complaint.

A nice Turkish Kebab restaurant on the High Street. Very large portion sizes. Mixed mezze starter was nice, good selection to try. We also went for the Wood Oven Special which allows you to try all the meats, great to share between two very hungry people or three less hungry. There was only two of us and we couldn’t finish it so they doggy bagged the leftovers for us. Some of the meat(chicken wings) were perfectly cooked still moist but also had a good chargrill flavour. But the lamb shish was still a bit tough. Only when we got there we realised it was a BYOB, so next time we may bring something. It is also Cash Only but there are many cash points near by to get some from. Being picky and the only downside is that the bread they serve is just pitta bread and not fresh Turkish bread which is disappointing when you compare it to other similar restaurants on the famous Turkish Green Lanes strip. It would also be nice to see a Lahmacun on the menu especially as they already have a wood oven to do the pizzas they sell.(Visit — 23/02/2015 Dinner)

Favourite kebabish. Sweet meats, great vibe, never had a bad meal here. I have friends who drive here from the other side of London! The lamb is incredible and the fish is great too. Don’t expect 5star dining, but expect a great meal.

Tonight we went for the first time and it was fantastic. The place was already crowded at 7pm, and a few minutes later there were no seats left at all. The atmosphere is loud and fun with people chowing down and chatting away, all as happy as could be. Turn around is very fast, so I doubt the wait is extremely long. All the waiters we had contact with were very friendly and efficient, almost giving the feel of being in a real Greek Taverna. We got the humus starter, the grilled Halloumi cheese, and the fried calamari. The humus was the usual, but still very good, and came with lots of pita bread. We didn’t know they were also going to give us a free starter of tzatziki, also very good. The Halloumi was good, but not so much my thing. The calamari looked like thin cheap onion rings like you’d get in the frozen food section, but it actually tasted really good with perfectly cooked calamari and an almost greasless batter. Go figure. For mains we got the lamb chops, the Halep kebab, and the Sea Bass Levrek. The 5 lamb chop portion size was pretty big, I struggled to finish it. The flavor was fantastic, thank you charcoal grill! The meat a little chewy in places but overall excellent quality. The rice was also excellent, and the salad very tasty. A solid dish I’d order again. The sea bass was a whole fish, again, I assume, cooked over charcoal, fantastic flavor, simply and perfectly cooked, my g/f was very happy(but she’d have been happier if she’d let me do the filleting :)) The Halep was excellent also — lamb shish(lamb cubes) and kofte kebab(spicy minced lamb) in a super tasty sauce with pieces of pita mixed in. Another winner we would order again. This is my kind of place; reasonably priced(no credit cards, cash only), great food, in an unpretentious, friendly restaurant where the owners have figured out that all you have to do is keep your customers happy, and they’ll keep coming back for more. I know we will.

This used to be Graham’s sausage shop. Graham is still there, but nowadays he has a pizza oven installed, and does takeways and deliveries locally. The quality is superb, on those lovely thin pizza bases. Of course, the suasages(made on the premises) are still there, and form the basis of my favourite pizza. Well done, Graham.
