I’ve visited Yuzu with my colleagues last Thursday. We had been told on the entrance they don’t do take-always, we sat around the conveyor belt(Yo Sushi style) thinking, at least it’s ‘gonna be quick’. How wrong we were! We picked a few readymade dishes and ordered a few from the menu. The place wasn’t that busy and with 4 people in the kitchen(the kitchen is open, so you can’t hide anything), we waited for our orders for over an hour. The place offers Japanese favourites with Latin American influence, but I only learned about it when we have come back to the office and googled a few things as the waitress couldn’t explain when I asked about ‘Anticucho.‘ The prawn sushi was fresh and tasty and went very well with pickled ginger which I found here particularly good there. The black cod was cooked perfectly, it was delicate & creamy, slightly sweet with a delicate flavour of miso. The avocado and tofu dumplings were OK, for my taste a little bit too blunt. The miso aubergine was tender and ‘meaty’ with a nice glaze of miso, was pretty tasty too and not too oily. I’ve heard very good opinions from my companions also about the salmon anticucho and katsu curry, but unfortunately the staff still has a lot to learn. In the middle of serving us, the waitress would walk away a number of times to serve other customers or do something else. The worst was, though, was when she started serving take away in front of us after she had told us they didn’t do then! When I pointed it out she said ‘they are neighbours’, which angered us even more as so were we, our office is only 5 minute walk from Yuzu. It’s not how you should be trying to win customers in your first week of opening.
