JD Wetherspoon – The Ice Wharf

I guess this place is okay depending on how much money you have in your pocket. For me being from the states, it’s not exactly how I’m used to ordering food. You have to go order at the bar, pay, then get your drinks and they’ll bring the food out to you which is fine if you are a local and know how it works. I think we just walked in there and stood there for a couple of minutes before I asked one of the other customers how the restaurant worked. The food and drinks are very inexpensive compared to other places around. Our beers were about 2 pounds each which is cheap when I’ve been paying 4.40 over the past few days. One drink even comes with your meal, for me a plus for this place. I’m not picky at all so everything on the menu and there was a lot… seemed fine to me. My wife who is very picky ordered the salad, didn’t eat it and ended up just eating garlic bread and fries (chips). I had fish and chips which was fairly decent. The wait staff were all friendly and it seemed like a really nice place for mostly the locals to hang out. As for the other customers… this is not an exaggeration of any sort and I am by no means judging those who I don’t know… after about five minutes of being in there and looking around it looked like a craigs list or tinder hook up place. Very interesting folks around there. As entertaining as it was and as inexpensive as it was, we probably will not be visiting here anytime soon… like never. I was surprised there were no Unilocal reviews of this place because there were almost 80 on trip advisor.

First of all, this might be owned by wetherspoon, but this location is called «The Ice Wharf.» Loved the large open seating areas. Order yourself at their bar and then they deliver the food to you via table number. They even have «mob» booths where you and only one other can sit with tiny tables in a secluded booth setting. Check them out on your way the the bathrooms.
The food was amazing! Had the best curry of my life there. My mom’s lamb was pretty darn good too (see pic). Very inexpensive, too. Feel like perhaps the locals have a bad impression of this place, but I’m telling you, if I ever find myself in Londonderry again, I’m coming here!
