A thoroughly enjoyable meal My wife and I booked a table at the Greek Taverna, having last called at this place when it was The Italian Job. For the rest of the evening, we were kicking ourselves that we’d not tried this place earlier. Having ummed and ahhed over the usual recognisable choices(kebabs, etc), my wife spotted the Banquet for two — a veritable plethora of selections from the main menu, quote«slowly served over three courses». Whilst pricier than the early bird offers at £21.95 per person, we went for this as going out is a really occasional treat(child!). Suffice to say, we were not disappointed, with a starter selection of Taramasalata, Hummus, Two other dip-based choices, Calamari, Bacon-wrapped Shrimp, Anchovies and pitta bread for the dips. Next up was a full Greek Feta Salad, with a Greek meatball, slice of smoked ham and Haloumi cheese each, all of which was outstanding. The final course was a truly majestic-sized breast of grilled chicken accompanied by a lamb chop and homemade and seasoned chunky chips. Not only was the food excellent, but the service was friendly, helpful and very welcoming — no wonder this place was busy, even just after Christmas. I’m really looking forward to the next time the grandparents offer to babysit so I can go back here and try more of their excellent food!

On a recent trip back to England we visited the Greek Taverna for a family meal. The food was very nice and they had a great set menu 2 courses for 12 quid. Inside the Restaurant is very similar to previous occupants«The Italian Job» well decorated and modern feeling. The staff where very friendly and attentive.

Much nicer inside than it appears on the outside. I have been there several times and have enjoyed the halloumi, soup of the day, the mini hot mez, chicken souvla, chicken & feta spinach and the steak. Many of my friends have enjoyed many more of the meals and starters too. Favourites are the halloumi and the chicken spinach dish. They have a great deal of 2 courses for £12.95 which can save a fortune if your dining in a large party. This is available all day monday, tuesday, wednesday and until 7.30 thursday, friday and the weekend. The restaurant is very inviting and the staff are pleasant. They are particularly brilliant on special occasions such as birthday, where they brought out complimentary deserts for our birthday twins. Overall, a top local restaurant that doesn’t break the bank. :) (You will need to ask for a box to take home leftovers)

As its name suggests, The Greek Taverna specialises in Greek cuisine and is a taverna, allegedly. Looks more like a normal restaurant building to me, but I guess The Greek Building doesn’t sound quite as authentic, does it? Name issues aside though, The Greek Taverna is a lovely restaurant to dine in and represents a refreshing change from the usual swarm of Indian and Italian restaurants that litter the local area(talk about overkill). The dishes available there are both varied and delicious, with the lamb keftedes being a particularly favourite of mine, as well as the kalamari. The Greek Taverna also does several special offers which are well worth checking out, such as the Early Evening Menu(2 courses for £12.95) and a Sunday menu, both of which represent excellent value for money considering the rich and flavoursome food on offer. The staff there are friendly and attentive also, ensuring that your dining experience at The Greek Taverna is one you will savour, just like their food.
