My old secondary school, and a place which holds many of my teenage memories! Altwood is a big school accomodating approximately 900 pupils aged 11 – 18 including sixth form students. When I attended there was a huge array of cultures, Altwood was particularly recognised for its sporting achievements and offerings including the first ‘all weather astro-turf pitch in Maidenhead’ which was funded by Sports England when the school won an award for it’s sports commitment. In addition, Altwood boasted a dedicated special needs department supported by the charity ICAN, where any pupils who required additional learning assistance would receive this with the help of learning support assistants. The music department was also highly regarded and the thirty-odd piece school band would perform regularly at school events and even tour local primary schools and elderly homes to encourage music as an excellent hobby and entertain appreciative audiences respectively! I had many happy years attending Altwood and gained good grades with the help and encouragment of some inspiring teachers!
