At 30£ for 3 courses it is hard to go wrong. The menu has 4 or so options of classic dishes. Each is prepared with great attention to detail and tastes superb. The restaurant itself is small, but very tasteful. There is good parking and set in Taplow House the surroundings are a great setting.

I went here a couple of years ago for a special birthday dinner. It was the second time I had been in the hotel. the first was a friends 40th party and that was a party in the cellars(which was excellent!). We had dinner in the hotel restaurant and for a Friday night it was so quiet! That was the shame i always think that empty restaurants are never a good sign! However the food was good and the service was excellent — it had to be!

A splendid setting and a wonderful place. I lived about ten minutes walk from this hotel/restaurant for about six months, and — stuck in a fairly remote place — it was a godsend. I have enjoyed a fantastic time here, whether with romantic interests(candles, plush, great service), mates(relaxing chairs, great wine list, range of cigars) or by myself(pretty waitresses). I’d like to tell you about the menu, but I always had the fillet steak, and for good reason. The grounds are lovely, and the village of Taplow is a lovely place. I would happily bring up a family in this part of the country — and would happily be a regular here. I must admit evenings tended to be pricey, but I think that was more because I was tempted by the wines, port and brandy than any excessive charges!

Berry’s at Taplow House Hotel is a hidden gem. The hotel is on a quiet, winding road north of Taplow, the house itself barely visible, but when you drive through the gates you see a beautiful lawns sweepiong down in front of a quite splendid building. One of the trees is said to have been planted by Elizabeth I. Berry’s restaurant is delightful: quite formal but stylish and complete with chandelier, Tudor rose-themed cornicing and a portrait of Bess herself. There’s a set menu at reasonable prices(£22 for two courses, £25 for three) very good value considering the standard and the setting. The menu carries five choices for each course. My friend’s smoked salmon and cream cheese risotto topped with quail’s egg and salmon caviar was creamy and tasty. I had twice-baked crab soufflé with a brandy and dill sauce had good texture, lots of flavour, and a very rich sauce. Other starter choices included terrine of venison with prunes soaked in port, and duck liver and foie gras parfait with fig chutney. Home made breads were good, with a choice of butters. My haunch of rabbit with black pudding wrapped in Parma ham on a braised red cabbage with fondant potato was certainly packed with hearty country flavours. Roasted pork belly and tenderloin with creamy mash and mustard sauce was my friend’s choice. The belly fell apart as required, the tenderloin was as tender and sweetly flavoured as it should be. And as in all the dishes we tasted, seasoning and flavouring spot on. For anyone looking for lighter options, there were seared tuna loin, chicken breast and baked goats cheese in puff pastry. Some interesting dishes on the dessert menu: iced banana and pistachio parfait with tempura battered bananas and honeycomb, for example, or passion fruit trifle with an oat and coconut biscuit. But I went for comfort food with Granny Smith apple tart, served with cinnamon custard and apple sorbet. Cooked fresh to order, it was perfectly comforting with the highlight of a very good, tart sorbet. My friend was set on hot chocolate fondant which was light but chocolatey, and the sorbet was fabulous I tried some and it was deeply fruity with the sweet wine singing the high notes. I was very impressed with the food and the service and felt the restaurant deserved to be busier than it was, but then the hotel caters for lots of corporate events and weddings too so the team is certainly kept busy.
