You know what you’re getting from this frankly. It is never going to cater for the Queen, but its noticeably cheaper than the main supermarkets and tastes the same as their own brand stuff. I live her. Best buy has to be their 85p bottles of cider. Almost as cheap as home brew, tastes better than Magners.

It might not have quite as much varied stock as the Aldi in Manchester City Centre, but darn it’s a pretty good option. I find myself here often if there’s a while to wait before the bus to take me back to Withington when I’ve been on one of my Safestore jaunts. Last time I came here with really specific ingredients in mind, I was not disappointed. Soy sauce? Check. Sweet potato? Try a whole bag for less than a quid. Carrots and onions? Er, ditto.(Prizes for those who guess what I was cooking…) As Kirsten mentions, the bus stop is right opposite so you can grab your wares and head straight on your journey. It might be lacking in the fresh sandwiches and small bottles of juice department, but why worry about that when you can get a nice lunch from Deli on the Grove? This Aldi’s saved my culinary skin a fair few times already and I plan to allow it to continue to do so. Yay Trafford!

This Aldi is one of the best Aldi’s in Manchester. The one on Market street can always pretty much let you down with its very inefficient stocking of goods. This branch is always well stocked and advertises more offers than I have seen otherwise. Its not much of a walk from the Trafford Bar metro station making it convienient and handy. Its never disaapointed anyone in terms of freshness or quality since I have barely seen my friend walk into any other grocery store than this one! So if the Market Street Aldi is your disaapointment, try this one and be assured.

This Aldi is the best Aldi in Manchester. OK, so it’s not as good(or as cheap or as efficient) as the authentic German Aldi I spent a year living opposite in the former GDR, but it’ll do. I used to take my bus home from work from the bus stop opposite, so always popped in if I had 10 minutes to kill before its arrival. More often than not I was so laden down with Aldi bargains that it would be a struggle to show my bus pass and make my way down the aisle without whacking people round the head with my 39p olives or £1.99 salmon. In true Aldi style the queues were usually long, but vanished within seconds due to the German efficiency of the staff(no chit-chat, help with bag packing, cash back, saving stamps etc etc). The reason it’s better than the other Aldi stores in Manchester is that it is always well-stocked. All Aldi stores advertise 5 special offers on fruit and veg(59p for 3 peppers, 59p for a packet of vine tomatoes and so on), but the offers are so popular that they rarely have any stock. This Aldi has always provided me with these offers, and for that I am grateful. I disagree with Sarah-Jane about the assorted merchandise dotted around the store. I’ve picked up some great walking socks for my Mum and some discounted kids’ books along with my fish and German beer!

Whilst you couldn’t pay me to shop at the Aldi on Market Street, I find the size and layout of this smaller branch in Old Trafford much easier to navigate. Two minutes walk from the Trafford Bar metro station, it’s the only store in the area that sells fresh and frozen groceries. I know this because one of my good friends lives nearby and does lots of last minute shopping here. He steers clear of the tinned and prepacked stuff but swears that the gourmet crisps, stonebaked pizzas and fresh vegetables are all pretty darn good. At 89pm, £1.99 and approx 69p respectively, they’re also a bit of a snip. I still find it kinda disturbing buying food from a shop that’s happy to stock carpet shampoo cleaners(currently £69) and double air-beds(currently £12.99) at the end of an aisle of frozen fish and chicken. But hey, when in Vegas…
