Asda. Standard to do all your shopping. This place is of a good size and there’s a petrol point just around the corner.

Given the sheer size of this ASDA, I sort of expected more. They have a small amount of all the essentials you need, but leave a lot to be wanted. For example, their small aisle of kitchen supplies will contain some tupperware and assorted pots and pans, but you won’t be able to find a variety of sizes, or measuring cups, or even a ladle. Just strange that it’d be missing these common items that you’d assume would be stocked in abundance. They do stock heavily on processed junk, so if that’s what you’re looking for you won’t be disappointed. Rows upon rows of crisps, chocolates, frozen processed foods, etc. Their fresh produce, on the other hand, is again lacking in comparison to other stores of this size. They’re probably stocking the items that others favour, otherwise it’s just a poor business model, but the lack of fresher options turns me off from returning here more frequently.

Most Asda supermarkets are a complete blot on the local landscapes. I.e., they’re really big and really green. But this Asda is right in the centre of Longsight and doesn’t manage to blight everything in sight. As a supermarket, we all know what Asdas are like. Loads of multi-buy deals, meaning that you kind of save money but also kind of come away with way more food than you actually need.

Back in my third year this place was a blessing upon our pathetic little lives. We had foolishly chosen to inhabit Longsight for a year, a choice that saw our house burgled just before Christmas, and needed something to make our stay that little bit brighter. Asda was there to fill that gap. It had all the foods we could want, the DVDs we could watch, extraneous Haribo we could commit to buy… everything. And all at the ridiculous prices Asda can charge in their position as Grand Overseer of the supermarket.um.market. Of course, looking back now I can see that I was probably as likely to get shot as find a bargain, but at the time cost eclipsed all. It’s why we ended up in Longsight in the first place. However, if you can drive there it’s well worth it as there really are some bargains to be had. Just don’t look anyone in the eye.

I sometimes call in this Asda store with my mum, Its not a huge store but has a good range of products on sale, located just off stockport road, behind the Longsight Library. And a 5 minute walk from Longsight Market. With stockport road having a good bus service this store is ideal for people who don’t drive in the area, and there are pleanty of other shops and the Market close by for you to have a look around. The store has outside cash Machines and a Taxi Rank outside where there is always Taxi’s Waiting. The store has a small George department near the tills, and a small selction of household accessories. There is also an instore bakery and deli counters. They also have a small stock of toys, Dvd’s and Music Cd’s in store. Like has already been said of all the Asda stores this is the one you are more likely to get reduced Bargins!!! They stock an extensive range of ethnic food which I think is great! The staff are normally friendly and Helpful.

As Asda’s go this one is great. Usually ok on the busy front — Hulme Asda seems much busier. For some reason this one has lots of great discounts — much more so than Hulme. The store layout is convenient and they sells Young’s pasta and salmon which is a really convenient, healthy and quick lunchtime eat if you have a micro at work!!! I haven’t managed to find any other Asda that sells this!!! Anyway, this store is my favourite. I also learned to drive a little in the car park and so it holds sentimental value also ;D
