BED stands for ‘Beverage, Entertainment and DIning’. What a coincidence then that it happens to have beds in it too. This basement lounge club is part of Tribeca, a Manhattan-concept bar that tried to appeal to all demographics — it’s gay, it’s straight, it’s a restaurant, it’s a pub. I can see the appeal of BED. Lounging around and drinking cocktails with your friends on a weeknight after a long day in the office is a welcome respite before your journey home. The music on Friday nights is pretty decent too, with disco and 80s classics getting everyone in the mood. Cocktail pitchers are a decent £8 but to me feel pretty weak compared to an individually priced glass. The one bugbear is that I don’t think the décor is luxurious and chic as everyone claims. If you look past the red and black painted walls there isn’t really a great deal of effort put into the place. The beds aren’t actually beds, just thin foam on wooden bases, and the bar seems dated. However, that’s a small detail that doesn’t seem to bother the throngs of party goers that come here at the weekend.
